Overview and Updates to 13th Edition of AATB's

Standards for Tissue Banking Now Available

In late 2011, the next edition of the AATB's Standards for Tissue Banking was finalized by the Standards Committee and approved by the Board of Governors. The 13th edition is being readied by the publisher, and we will notify you when printed copies with CDs are available.

The implementation date will be ninety (90) days from the date of publication. However many updates announced since the 12th edition's publication in 2008 have previously been published, and most are currently in effect. See updates to the 12th edition at:

Standards Updates for the 12th Edition

To assist our accredited tissue banks, we are providing an advanced copy of an overview of changes made in the 13th edition as well as edited sections that have not yet been announced:

The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) -- a professional, non-profit, scientific and educational organization -- is the only national tissue banking organization in the United States. Founded in 1976, the AATB is dedicated to improving and saving lives by promoting and advancing the safety, quality and availability of donated human tissue. To fullfill that mission, the AATB publishes standards and accredits tissue banks, certifies personnel and operates a tissue network.
