We're getting ready for this Summer, are you? We started our new boardwalk down to the pier and we're putting in a beach next to the pool. Picture soaking up the sun at the pool with your kids playing in the sand, never out of sight.

| Wall Street Journal: "Market for Vacation Homes is on the rise" | |
An article on the front page of the Wall Street Journal on January 10th, 2011 says "Sales in many vacation communities across the U.S. soared last year to levels not seen since boom times... The strength of second-home sales paints a stark contrast to the overall housing market, which is expected to worsen in 2011." According to NAR economist Lawrence Yun, "The market for vacation homes based on local sales data, appears to be booming. The comeback has been helped by gains in the stock market and an improving economy, which have made wealthier Americans more upbeat about the future". The article added that although the market is returning, most prices have not yet risen.
Another article in Real Estate News added, "The trend of purchasing vacation or second homes saw growth in 2010, when vacation home sales outpaced investment property and regular home sales." In the southwest Michigan counties of Cass and Berrien sales of waterfront properties in December, 2010 were up 35% over the December, 2009 sales. The inventory of waterfront properties was also at its lowest point since August of 2009. Between a stronger, increased market and decreasing supply, how far behind the trend can higher prices be? |
