**Tip of the month - Paper Tearing**

Paper tearing is a wonderful and easy scrapbooking technique. One, your hands are your tool ie so you don't need any special tools and two, it's easily applied to layouts and cards as it is one of the simplest scrapbooking techniques. Within quick minutes, you can add textures, dimensions and interest to borders of your cardstock, patterned papers, vellum, and photos!

When paper is torn, there'll be two sides one will be a smooth and the other will be a rough side. So if you have a paper that's double-sided, you can choose to have the smooth edge or the rough torn edge.

Soooooo,
For a smooth edge, tear the paper away from you.
For a rough edge, pull the tear towards you.

Some paper have the same color core throughout while some have a white core when torn. If you like to reveal the white core, remember to tear the paper toward you.

Why don't you grab some scraps from your stash (hmmm we all have huge scrap stash's and try out different tears and see how you like them.

Some different ideas

There's a few variations to paper tearing that will give you various looks to the torn edges.

Jagged Edge

If you want a controlled jagged edge, lay the paper on a flat surface.
Then hold down the paper with your non-dominant hand and start making slow and small tears
towards with the thumb and index finger of your dominant hand.

Soft Edge

For a softer edge, fold the paper to form a good crease. Then use a cotton bud to apply a trickle of water down the crease to wet it slightly. Then tear away along the wet crease.

Wide Torn Edge

For a long tear with a wide torn edge, simply hold the paper with your fingertips and start tearing with both hands in opposite directions.

**SKETCHES**

Another month has past and I have actually spent quite a bit of time scrappin layouts this month and have even found the time to make some new cards.   I have been tinkering some more with my Corel Paint Shop Pro program which is my new photo editing program and I am actually starting to get the hang of it somewhat. This program is also good for creating sketches so now I can start bringing sketches into the blog posts and of course my newsletters.

Are sketches useful? Are they any help? Differing views exists however I know that when I have a sketch to follow everything seems
to fall into place a little layoutmore quicker -
and that I guess is half my time saved.

Don't get me wrong, I also really enjoy labouring over a layout for ages and creating from scratch. However sometimes I find  I am much too fussy and I spend toooo much time agonising of the position of paper, photos and such, that I really don't end up getting many layouts done...
I end up wasting quite a bit of time, so for me a sketch nuts out a basic idea of what might be floating around in my head.   Anyway here the finished layout.   Photos edited in Corel Paint Shop Pro.
