Let me never boast of anything
LSTC could be better at boasting -- at least that's my perspective as one of the seminary's paid promoters and cheerleaders.
I suspect that LSTC suffers from "second city syndrome." Growing up in Chicago, I was aware of my hometown's status as America's "Second City." It just wasn't as large, sophisticated or exciting as New York. Being from the second city makes it harder to boast because you know that there's someone else who's already claimed the bragging rights to just about everything.
Right now, at LSTC, there's something we need to crow about: LSTC's comprehensive campaign, Equipping the Saints for Ministry, exceeded its $56 million goal!
This is a huge accomplishment for LSTC. The support of alumni and friends, the hard work and sacrifices of volunteers, staff, students and faculty made it happen. It confirms that those who know us best support the good work that happens here.
But let us never boast of anything except in our Lord Jesus Christ. It is in service to Christ and his church that LSTC carried out the campaign. Because of its success, LSTC is able to form new leaders for the church who will seek to build up the body of Christ and work for a world of peace and justice.
With gratitude,

News from LSTC
Equipping the Saints Campaign exceeds $56 million goal
The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago's first comprehensive campaign, Equipping the Saints for Ministry, ended June 30, 2010, exceeding its $56 million goal by over $300,000 in realized and planned gifts in a three-year quiet phase and three-year public phase of the campaign.
"LSTC's board and administration are grateful for the partnership of so many alumni and friends who gave generously to the seminary over the course of the campaign," said the Rev. Dr. Philip Hougen, acting president of LSTC. Hougen served as co-chair of the campaign with his spouse, Diane, and Larry and Christie Tietjen. [Read more]
High school youth to become "ambassadors of Christ" through YIM programs
"We didn't build houses, we built friendships. We didn't become summer vacationers, we became ambassadors of Christ. We didn't pass this opportunity up, we became Youth in Mission," said Blake Romenesko, about his experience at Serving Christ in the World, one of Youth in Mission's (YIM) programs at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. YIM's next Serving Christ in the World program will be held June 11 - July 2, 2011. The application deadline is February 25, 2011. Learn more about Serving Christ in the World.
In Youth in Mission's Beyond Belief program, high school youth groups connect with LSTC and Chicago service organizations for various ministry opportunities during week-long service trips. Youth group leaders and pastors may mold the program to fit their group's spiritual and scheduling needs. Learn more about Beyond Belief.
