Two Degrees of LSTC
by Gail S. Hermodson M.Div. Class of 2002, D.Min. Class of 2008 I decided to attend LSTC while I was living in Poland as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I had never visited the seminary and had no opportunity to do so prior to the fall semester so I based my decision on its strong academic reputation as well as its international student body. That LSTC was located in the second largest Polish-speaking city in the world was icing on the cake for me, after two years of speaking only Polish!
The rigorous academic environment immediately drew me in, with lessons in Greek and a 33 page syllabus for the course on the Pentateuch. I was drawn into new worlds through Kurt Hendel's history lectures, challenged by the spectrum of tools for Biblical study and, thanks to LSTC's partnership with eleven other seminaries in Chicago, I was heartened by a seminar offered at Catholic Theological Union for returning missionaries, equally applicable to returning Peace Corps Volunteers!
