"I will honor the sanctity of human life above the claims of human freedom"

From the first strains of opening worship, life was a part of the conversation at the Fellowship of Presbyterians Gathering of 2,000+ Presbyterians in Orlando, Fl, January 18-20. Vitality of spiritual life was evident in the worship services. The text of the covenant that members are asked to sign includes a clear expression of the value of human life-a stark contrast to policies of the PCUSA. "People, people are irreplaceable in the eyes of God," said Hope Italiano Lee in the opening worship. . .The intention of both the FOP (inside PCUSA) and the ECO-P (outside PCUSA) to uphold the value of human life is evident in statements made in foundational documents unveiled at the gathering. Pregnant and Single

"I'm a single mom", she said. "I had a baby when I was 17." "He's 7 now. It's hard, but he's worth it."

I really don't know why this young mother shared so personally with me. ..She is a winsomely real mom slogging through the daily challenges of full time work and parenting a 7 year old. ...

When I arrived back at the PPL office and began to read my email correspondence, I found the picture of Baby E (above). It was sent by the young, unmarried mom that called us last month. You-our PPL supporters on Facebook-provided the baby clothing and furniture she needed!

These are the things that keep the ministry of Presbyterians Pro-Life real for me. Read more.

I like Stephen J. Heaney's take on the phrase

The Witherspoon Institute Public Discourse website posted an article on Feb 6, 2012 by Stephen J. Heaney. "Personally Opposed, but Sleeping with the Enemy" is a thoughtful and challenging response to those who often define their positions on abortion or same-sex marriage as "personally opposed, but...".

According to Heaney,

"If you were truly opposed to something, then you would try to defeat it, especially if your conscience tells you that this something is both a moral wrong in itself and disastrous in its consequences."

Pray with PPL

February 5-11

Philippians 1:27-30; Luke 9:1-6

Pray for the unity of the church in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel; and for all believers to live lives worthy of the Gospel.

Pray for the various pro-life ministries, that they will seek ways to support one another in their stand for life.

February 12-18

Philippians 2:1-4; Psalm 25:8-10

Pray that pregnant women in difficult circumstances will choose life; giving the needs and interests of their child their utmost attention.

Pray for PPL's Executive Committee as they meet in Pittsburgh and by phone on February 13-14; and for God's presence and power at the

General Assembly Mission Council meeting February 15-17.

February 19-25

Philippians 2:5-11; John 20:24-29

Pray and give thanks that Jesus made Himself 'nothing' and came to earth in the likeness of man to meet the needs of His people.

Pray that our churches will proclaim the truth of God's Word, that Jesus is the Incarnate Lord of glory and is worthy of our worship.

February 26-March 3

Philippians 2:12-13; Ezekiel 36:26-27

Pray and give thanks that your salvation in Christ is of Him from first to last; ask the Holy Spirit to enable you to live a life of obedience as you persevere until Christ comes again.

Pray for those you love who have not placed their faith in Christ; ask the Holy Spirit to give them a new heart and a new spirit.

PPL's Executive Committee will be meeting next week in our Pittsburgh Office to plan for our General Assembly pro-life witness. We would be grateful for your prayers as we meet and for your encouragement through your financial support. All across our culture and church there is turmoil and dissension--we need God's Spirit to move among and in us. We want to be faithful to God's calling to uphold life and preach Jesus Christ. Thanks for being a partner in PPL's efforts.
