Greetings!
This will be a short report as it is after midnight in Minneapolis. As a commissioner my days are long and I will start again early tomorrow. My day was spent editing the New Form of Government. It was actually pleasant and the committee process has been remarkably smooth.

Yesterday Dr. David Swanson delivered a powerful and uplifting message at the PPL Luncheon event. You can watch it here.
 
Today I went to the luncheon of Presbyterians Affirming Reproductive Options. Dr. Leroy Carhart, late-term abortionist, spoke of the many pregnant women that he has "helped" by providing abortions late in pregnancy. Two security guards stood at the entrances to the room as he spouted political slogans of the pro-abortion community and said, "We've got to stop making friends of your enemies! This is war!"
 
I was saddened to see several members of the PC(USA) with whom I have worked hard to build relationships sitting under such hateful rhetoric. This kind of politicizing of the debate does nothing to help the church and I am disappointed that PARO chose this type of speaker for their event.
The good news is that an overture speaking out against forced abortion was approved by committee. Their recommendation will go to plenary later in the week.
