Calen Carr shoots for MLS Cup this Sunday vs. LA Galaxy
Enjoy the Raiders and 49ers games on TV Sunday as a buildup to the day's biggest game--the 2011 MLS Cup between the Houston Dynamo
with our own Calen Carr and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The match will be on ESPN starting at 6 o'clock Sunday evening.
Diablo FC alumnus Calen Carr scored the winning goal for his new team the Dynamo earlier in the playoffs against Philadelphia Union and hopes to get his hands on the MLS Cup for the first time. His former Diablo FC teammate (DVSC Renegades) Chris Wondolowski won two MLS Cups with the Dynamo in 2006 and 2007.
Carr and his Dynamo teammates face the big favorites and home-standing Galaxy which featured an international star-studded lineup including David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane. The goalkeeper for the Galaxy is Josh Saunders, one of many pupils of Diablo FC goalkeeper coach Henry Foulk, who tutored Saunders at Cal.

This latest honor capped a year when the Danville native and De La Salle High School grad got his first call-up to the United States National Men's National team and started a friendly against Chile in January (pictured above) and later in the year played against both World Cup Champion Spain and Manchester United. Joining Wondo on the MLS Best XI are Kasey Keller, Thierry Henry, David Beckham and Landon Donovan. |

Club players, coaches lead St. Mary's into NCAA Tournament
For the first time in school history the St. Mary's College men's soccer team can call itself West Coast Conference league champions. The Gaels won their NCAA Tournament opener Thursday 1-0 at Cal State Bakersfield and play at UC Irvine Sunday evening. Diablo FC was represented by 3 starters in the NCAA game for the Gaels.
Diablo FC alumnus Jose Cabeza (left), who helped his Diablo FC 90 team to the 2008 USYSA National Championship Final Four, scored the game's only goal as the Gaels edged University of San Diego 1-0 last Sunday to clinch the WCC crown by a single point over Santa Clara. The Gaels and their sixth-year head coach Adam Cooper, a Diablo FC coaching director who was named WCC Coach of the Year this week, also reached the NCAA tourney in 2009.
Also on the SMC staff are Diablo FC coaches Leonard Griffin and Chris Brown. Read more... |
