Save High School Sports Fun Run/Walk huge success
Diablo FC-sponsored event raises $108,000 and awareness
The United Mt. Diablo Athletic Foundation was formed this year to generateSave our Sports logo support for the high school athletic programs in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District at Clayton Valley, College Park, Concord, Mt. Diablo, Northgate and Ygnacio Valley high schools. The biggest UMDAF fund raiser to date was last Sunday when Diablo FC sponsored the first 5K Fun Run/Walk that drew 2200 participants and raised, according to reports, $108,000.
Diablo FC parents were at Newhall Park last Sunday at 6 a.m. helping set up. Read an account of the event in the Clayton Pioneer.
The run/walk was held to help ensure that all winter sports, including soccer, will be held at MDUSD high schools. The school board meets this Tuesday at 7:30 at district headquarters on Carlotta Dr. in Concord to make a final decision. Read Superintendent Dick Nicoll's report. The superintendent ran in the race last Sunday and also made a donation to the foundation. Other local businesses have also stepped up in the last couple of weeks to make donations as a result of the publicity generated by the Fun Run/Walk.

Remember to check field conditions and drive carefully
With the rainy season starting please keep in mind that we're guests on all the fields we use and we need to be considerate of the long-term condition of each venue. In order to make sure fields are not used when conditions warrant them being closed, we update the weather line daily. We share this line with the MDSA AYSO program. You can call (925) 672-3373 and then press 3 at any time to get an update on field status.
There will be times that some fields are closed and others are open so please listen carefully to the entire message. There may be days following a period of bad weather when you will need to check the message in the afternoon as fields may be opened later in a day once staff has determined they are playable.
We also have had numerous reports of people driving too fast near the playfields. Please be aware that there are many young children taking part in our games and training as well as younger siblings of our players at the parks. We want everyone to drive near the fields as you would near a school before or after school when many children are in the vicinity.
