Unbeaten Men's Lacrosse Receives Nation's No. 1 Ranking
The Stevenson University men's lacrosse team's journey to become one of the top
programs in Division III took an unprecedented step when the team was
ranked at No. 1 in the latest USILA Division III Coaches' Poll.
"Monday's ranking is the result of five years of hard work," said head coach
Paul Cantabene who now owns a record of 52-23 in four-plus
seasons with the Mustangs.
"When I came here, we had seven non-winning seasons out of the first 10.
Since then, we have had a winning record each year and have continued to move up
the rankings."
The Mustangs (9-0, 3-0 CAC), who have won 12-straight regular season games,
nine consecutive at home and their last five in the CAC, assumed the top spot in
this week's national rankings after their 12-11 victory over Wesley and
Gettysburg's 11-10 win at previously unbeaten and top-ranked Salisbury on
Saturday.
After having already achieved the program's highest ever ranking at No. 7 on
March 2, Stevenson becomes the first team in the 15-year history of Stevenson
athletics to be ranked at No. 1. Read more.
