Book Corner
If you enjoy escaping into the cozy world of the small English village of
the past, Maureen Beck of the SU Library recommends two charming books by
Suzette A. Hill: Bones in the Belfry, and A Load of Old Bones. The
books follow the exploits of the Reverend Francis Oughtergard and his cat and
dog (who provide their points of view in the books) set in the decade of the
1950's. These books have a daring twist, are quite funny, and are very readable.
-Recommendation by Maureen Beck,
Director of the Stevenson University Library

Alumni of
Stevenson University accomplish extraordinary things every day. At the May Commencement exercises each
year, President Kevin J. Manning, Ph.D. and the Stevenson University Alumni
Association honor three alumni who make outstanding contributions to their
profession, their community, to the University, or in some other capacity.
Please consider
nominating an outstanding Stevenson alumnus. Click here for a description of the awards and the
criteria for nomination. We would like your help in identifying
- and recognizing - those few who go above and beyond the level of excellence we
already expect of them as students, as employees, and as citizens.
Deadline: February 1, 2009

Wellness Corner I love a new year. It almost seems like we can start all over, finally
become that wonderful, productive, healthy, happy person we've always
wanted to be. The trouble is, the enthusiasm to make changes,
especially with exercise and diet, tends to fade once we realize we
can't change everything overnight. If you want to make lasting changes,
there are three things you can do to make your resolutions work all
year long: Adjust your attitude, change your lifestyle, and come up with
a plan for success.

Alumni Newsletter
January 2009

Greetings!
It's hard to believe
that another year has ended! We've accomplished so much over the past year, and all with your help! We sold out a Wine Tasting, celebrated 60 years, and welcomed record attendance during VillaFest. And, that's not even the half of it, but it's time to say so long to 2008 and look forward to 2009.
There are already a few exciting events lined up for the 2009 calendar! We've added beer to our selection for the (now) Wine and Beer Tasting on January 24. We're also hosting a day full of activities for the School of Business and Leadership Grand Opening on April 30. But, these aren't the only ways for you to stay engaged. Sign up for an alumni panel, volunteer for an event, support a scholarship, or attend an athletic game. We look forward to seeing you on campus, soon!
Here's to a new year! Nina

Alumni Stories
Have you always wished that someone had told you just how life would have been like once you graduated? How it would have saved you the panic when you didn't quite have a job offer yet, but you were no longer covered under your parents' health insurance. What about the time you realized you had to move back home with your parents? Wouldn't it have been helpful to hear from others who had gone through the same experience and how they handled the situation? Other life experiences, too. How to file your taxes; how to pick roommates and where to live; the fact that you need renter's insurance; selecting a job that fits you; what benefits you should be considering, not just the bottom line salary; selecting car insurance, etc. Wouldn't it have been helpful to have someone to explain it all? Well, here's your chance to be the one giving your sage advice to the Senior Class. In Alumni Relations, we're looking to make the transition from life as a student to life as an alum as smooth as possible. We're hosting a "Senior Countdown" to kick off the 100 days left until graduation, and we need your help. We're looking for alumni to come and share their stories and offer their words of wisdom about their own experiences, challenges they may have faced, and successes they have enjoyed post graduation. Consider joining us during the Senior Countdown on Thursday, February 5 at the Rockland Center in Owings Mills. The event will take place during the day from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. There will also be an alumni panel from 12:30-1:30. If you can come for an hour, or stay all day, we want you there! Stay for the Senior Class Happy Hour at 4:30! RSVP to Nina at nbonano@stevenson.edu or (443) 334-2625, TODAY! |
