Alumni of
Stevenson University accomplish extraordinary things every day. At the May Commencement exercises each
year, President Kevin J. Manning, Ph.D. and the Stevenson University Alumni
Association honor three alumni who make outstanding contributions to their
profession, their community, to the University, or in some other capacity.
Please consider
nominating an outstanding Stevenson alumnus. Click here for description of the awards and the
criteria for nomination. We would like your help in identifying
- and recognizing - those few who go above and beyond the level of excellence we
already expect of them as students, as employees, and as citizens.

Alumni Newsletter
November 2008

Greetings!
Thanks, again, to everyone who made VillaFest fantastic this year. Whether or not you were able to attend, we'd love for you to take this brief survey in order to improve on next year. If you didn't attend or weren't able to, here's your chance to tell us why. Maybe you'd like to see a band or have a community service project be a part of this weekend. If you did attend, was it all that you expected? We'll never know, unless you tell us. VillaFest is your weekend, so help us to make it the best! It's hard to believe
that the holiday season is already upon us. In just one week, we'll be
carving up the turkey, piling on the mashed potatoes, and slipping into
some pants with an elastic waist! We wish you a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Sincerely, Nina

Wellness Corner Turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie...then eggnog, cookies, candy
canes...Oh my! The holiday season is upon
us, and for many that means feeling as stuffed as the turkey on
Thanksgiving. The average American gains
a little over 1lb during the holiday season, and unfortunately that pound tends
to be permanent. With a little planning
and portion control, one can enjoy the holiday festivities without over
indulging. Here are a few simple holiday
tips:
1. Never go to a party with an empty stomach. Eating a small, healthy snack before a party
such as a piece of fruit, light yogurt, or string cheese will help you avoid
filling up on high calorie appetizers and foods.
2. Avoid high calorie drinks, especially those
containing alcohol. Liquors and
mixed drinks can have as many as 450 calories per serving. If you choose to drink, try a light wine or
beer. Better yet, stick with water, club
soda, and diet drinks for a calorie-free thirst quencher.
3. Portion control, portion control, portion
control. Fill your plate with small
portions of the foods you must try, but fill it only once! Another option, use a salad plate-it helps
control portion sizes, even with a plateful.
4. If possible, bring a healthy food option to
add to the buffet. Contribute your
favorite healthy holiday food to the party. You and other guests will always have a smart option to eat!
5. Don't forget to stay active. Routine physical activity will help maintain
your weight during the holidays and beyond.
