RN to BS Program Online!
Villa Julie
Becomes First Maryland Private Institution to Offer RN to
BS Program Completely Online
In its continuing
effort to combat the nursing shortage in Maryland
and across the country, Villa Julie
College has unveiled
plans to also offer its RN to BS nursing degree option completely online. This new
option will allow working nurses to earn an accredited bachelor's degree at
their own pace without disrupting their personal and professional lives. Villa Julie is the first
private institution in Maryland
and one of only a handful of institutions across the country to offer an RN to BS
option online. The College will continue to offer the RN to BS
option onsite and via distance learning through partnerships with seven area
community colleges, giving nurses many options for how to advance their careers. "We believe that nurses
should control their education," says Linda Diaconis, RN, Ph.D., Department Chair for the RN to BS Option and Professor
of Nursing. "Nurses should have the chance to choose which course
delivery model makes the most sense for them." By the beginning of the
fall semester, all eight classes required for the degree will be available
online. The College began offering some classes online earlier this year. "By putting our RN to BS
program online, we hope to make the dream of a bachelor's degree easier to
reach for today's hard-working nurses whether they live locally or in another
state," says Joyce Becker, Esq.,
Dean of the School
of Graduate and
Professional Studies. "Time and location should not determine whether a nurse
can earn a bachelor's degree." The Villa Julie Nursing Division
recently received accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Division is already accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Trip to Cuvilly, France
Embarking on a pilgrimage following in the footsteps of Saint Julie Billiart, the foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, the college's founding order, 23 members of the VJC community set out for France on April 16. The school planned the trip as part of the year-long celebration of Villa Julie's 60th anniversary. The diverse group included several alumni and their spouses, students, faculty, friends, Sister Ann Julie, the Dean of Villa Julie from 1955-1964; Sister Agnes Curran, a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur; and Dr. Kevin J. Manning, president of Villa Julie College and his wife Sara. The journey started in Paris, then moved on to Cuvilly, the birthplace of St. Julie Billiart, and continued to Amiens, France; Namur, Belgium; and Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, before the group returned home. The trip was planned by Susan Carl '57, alumni researcher, and was designed for the entire Villa Julie community. "Sue lived this trip for a year," said Jane Hogge, Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. For personal accounts from the members on the trip, visit the Villa Julie blog. |

The Alphabet Murder Series by Sue Grafton
This series, which is up to T (T is for Trespass), is addictive. Set in California in the 1980's, the series features twice-divorced feisty Kinsey Millhone, a private investigator whose sense of humor bubbles throughout. You can start with the very first, A is for Alibi, but any one of them is excellent. I can read them again and again. -Recommendation by Maureen Beck, Library Director |
