Happenings at the Bookstore and Around Town

January 2010

Dear Friends, In the middle of the hustle of holiday shopping, a mom came into the shop to give us a gift, a gift from her young son, Evan Chaladoff. It was this delightful drawing of watchung booksellers (with our NJ Transit train as well!) and these sweet words: "My favorite place to go in Montclair is Watchung Booksellers. Watchung Booksellers is my favorite place because if you need a book, they get it for you right away. Also, they have nice people that work there." This lovely gift just made our day. You're the Best, Evan!
And then, just this morning, the phone rang with an inquiry for a book. The caller was delighted that we had the book in stock and announced that her New Year's Resolution was to call watchung booksellers first. " watchung booksellers is right around the corner," she explained, "and why should I give my business to A?!#*zon?" We are delighted to have a new customer and we love her New Year's Resolution! Thank you to all of you who supported us this past year.
Our annual watchung BESTsellers list is included below. We love this list of our bestsellers - a lively mix of local and global celebs. Your support of our authors is clear from this list. And we have another month brimming with activity. We're looking forward to seeing you then.
Stay warm and cozy up with a good book! A quick reminder that our Inventory Clearance Sale continues through Friday, 1/8. We're cleaning house and making room for all the new books coming in. www.watchungbooksellers.com.
Happy Reading! , Margot, Carolyn, Jeanne, Marina, Nicole, and Marisela |

Author Reading and Discussion Dan Hurley Diabetes Rising How a Rare Disease Became a Modern Pandemic, and What to Do About It Tuesday, January 12th 7-8pm
Written by award-winning investigative journalist Dan Hurley, Diabetes Rising is
a gripping expose of the quest for a cure for the disease that afflicts
hundreds of millions of people around the world. Hurley chronicles
today's diabetes epidemic-how the disease has grown so dramatically,
why the American Diabetes Association focuses its attention on just a
small handful of available treatments, and why the research being done
today doesn't look beyond accepted types of treatments. Just as Eric
Schlosser's Fast Food Nation uncovered the sordid details
leading to an epidemic of obesity, Dan Hurley uncovers the hidden
truths of what is being researched-and even more importantly, what is
not.
