Garden tomb closeup      While standing just outside the entrance to the tomb, a friend already inside poked her head out through the opening, smiled, and simply said, "He's not here!"  My husband and I, in awe, tip-toed in after her to see for ourselves.  The scripture is true!  The tomb is empty.

He's alive!  Hallelujah!

Happy Easter!

Keynotes from Carole

 Has your sufficiency been surrensified?

My husband's grandmother, Irene Brewer, knew the Lord, lived a full life, and became my good friend during the last thirteen of her ninety-seven years on earth.

My own grandmother passed away shortly after our wedding leaving us with her sweet blessings and the commission to always love each other.  With her passing, I was a newlywed with no living grandparents except my newest one, Grandma Brewer.
A few months passed and we began to develop our friendship.  Grandma B. taught me how to cut up a chicken and make banana bread.  She wrote witty poems, gave marvelous dramatic readings, made numerous patchwork quilts and Afghans, and sparked my interest in scrap booking because she was the champ.
Each time, she would greet me with a breath-taking bear hug that, for a moment, made me wonder if my ribcage would remain in tact.  After one of those incredible hugs, Grandma B. mischievously asked me, "How's your hi-copperosity?"  Taking a long pause to consider the unusual question, I replied with a giggle, "Fine thanks. How's yours?" "Fine!" was her robust reply.
With excitement, I would share with her my aspirations for singing and teaching.  Grandma Brewer listened with great interest and then looked through me with her steel blue eyes saying, "That's all fine as long as you don't ever think you're better than anyone else."
Her beautiful embroidered table cloth and napkins graced the family table on most holidays.  While rotating the potatoes and sweet corn twice and then three times, Grandma whimsically asked me, "Has your sufficiency been surrensified?"
Surrensified?  What a great word!  You won't find it in the dictionary, but it sounds like an excellent description of how I felt after those hugely fortifying meals.   I was surely surrendered and solidly satisfied.  Surrensified!
Irene Brewer was the mother of three, the grandmother of nine, the great-grandmother of seven, and the great-great grandmother of three yet she had plenty of love left for me.  She filled an empty space in my heart with a banquet of kindness, interest, time, and love.
In these troubling times of nerve-jolting bulletins and economic instability, the only true peace comes when we're surely surrendered to the will of God and solidly satisfied in Him alone.   Grandma Brewer saw her share of troubles over a period of ninety-seven years but consistently, she chose to put her trust in Jesus Christ, the solid Rock.  He was the source of her strength and love.
Now, as you prepare to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and a beautiful spring, I'll ask you for Grandma B., "Has your sufficiency been surrensified?"

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is
made perfect in weakness."
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
