Getting Organized to Lose Weight: Meal Planning Works

Quick Tips that Make it Easy!!!!

How is your weight and organization related? I will let you in on what I have found to be the key to losing weight: Meal Planning! I consider myself an expert now that I have lost those fourteen pounds (for the 20th time).

Being very busy can wreak havoc on your weight because you come home not knowing what you are going to have for dinner and just start pulling things out, nibbling etc...frustration! Planning what you will eat is the key. Your plan can be as simple or as complicated as you want. There are a couple of ways to do it.

One of my favorites is to have ten or fifteen meals that you enjoy written on index cards, post its, magnets or a chart. Just rotate the meals. Sit down once a week and review, which nights do you actually NEED to make a meal.

There are a million apps and websites to help you plan. Once you get started it will only take you a few minutes. One of my clients did a 3 week plan, that rotated every three weeks. She also created a Fall/Winter plan and a Spring/Summer plan.

Check out my Organized Meals Board on Pinterest for ideas on planning and printable pages that you can use. I also am a big fan of the Epicurious and Allrecipes apps. These tools allow you to search for recipes, store your favorites and additional planning options.

If there are any ideas or apps that you love and would love to share, we are interested, please share with us.

Back-to-School Tools

In this time of transition parents can take a page out of school teachers' books. Order and routine trump everything in the classroom and create an environment of contribution, good behavior, and efficiency. Here are a few ways to get the same structure at home:

  • Keep a list by the door of important items each child has to take with them daily
  • Have a routine with a set time for when each child packs their lunch and other school items for the next day
  • Create an In and Out box on your desk at home for each child to leave you papers to review or sign
  • Use a dry erase calendar board to schedule everyone's activities at a glance.
  • Get your school to have Friday Files. where they hold all paper until Friday, you review over the weekend. On Monday you send it back with notes, signatures, checks and what have you.
These are just a few helpful hints. If your family, or a family you know, would like to have me create a system for you to keep your family life running smoothly, call for a free consultation.

Recent and Ongoing Projects:

Busy, busy, busy...

One client is getting ready to do a large renovation, so we are moving her office and master suite into guest rooms on another floor. A lot of planning is involved here. Today the donations were picked up, tomorrow the movers move all the furniture out of the area to be renovated, set some of it up elsewhere, move all of the boxes to the correct location and then we have to set up computers in the temporary office.

Another client is getting ready to move, so we are purging unwanted and unneeded items so that when the house actually goes on the market it will be simple to make it ready to show.

A client that I "saved" called me for more "saving." She is getting her PhD and has a new man in her life, so that means some adjustments to her closets as well as having her paperwork organized for her thesis research.

I LOVE what I do!
