Greetings!

Hello again. Spring is springing up all around us. When I left home yesterday my daffodils were blooming and forsythia blossoming into that amazing yellow color.

April is a month of renewal, as I look at the April calendar many of the holidays reflect this.  Earth Week

It is New Years in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Many other countries are celebrating their independence; Syria (as of this writing, that may be changing), South Africa, Portugal, and The Conch Republic  (I think this is an excuse to party...like they need one) to name a few. Easter is a time of new beginnings, as is the opening day of baseball season.

Power Resources

 Recycle

Here are some power resources to help you move your items on  safely.

Your county, township, and trash hauler are your primary resources- their websites have information on what you need to recycle, how it needs to be prepared and when their  hazardous waste and ecycling events are (usually in the spring and fall).

Donations are a tax deductible form of recycling. Remember to use itsdeductible.com to track your deductions if you want to submit them to your accountant for a tax deduction.  There are many resources for donations, my current favorite is Impact Thrift, they pick up.

Google.com +what you want to recycle+ your zip code will help you find more resources.

Earth911.org - This is an informative website that also has lists of locations that accept all types of material for recycling by your zip code.

Freecycle.org - This is a community board where you can post items that you no longer want and hopefully there is someone out there who is looking for what you want to move on to a better home. I found a woman who needed notebooks, I had tons of notebooks...she came by and picked them up one day!  Out of my office!

Local Libraries- accept fiction & non-fiction books, CDs, DVDs & VHS tapes. Do not give them old text books, encyclopedias or VHS tapes that you recorded from your TV. Call yours to double check.

Stuffed Animals These can be tricky to get rid of. This is a great organiziation, they package and donate mostly to local police forces to help put at ease st the scene of crises. The  Ardmore Chapter   is not receiving donations until May

Upcoming Shredding Events  ProShred  IKEA-NAPO Event Titan Shredding & Shred Patrol

Staples and Best Buy  take most ecycling, my favorite is to donate to Team Children in Audubon, they repair and refurbish computers for those in need.

Grocery Stores-are great places to recycle those pesky plastic bags

Whole Foods -currently has containers for corks, #5 plastic and cell phones

HabitatforHumanity.org -These folks use your donations to raise capital for their projects. I have had them pick up a jacuzzi, doors, furniture and windows. Call your local store because what they accept changes depending on what they have in stock, sometimes they will pick up.

Recycle Pretty Much Everything else in Pottstown, they take pretty much anything you can think of...

Earth Day began in Philadelphia in 1970 (Belmont Plateau anyone)!  In the organizing and productivity industry we consider every day Earth Day.

Look for many recycling opportunities in your community this month.

Part of what we do as professional organizers is to teaching our clients about recycling. There is so much that we can currently recycle and those lists are growing. We will share some of favorite resources with you this month.

News:
  • I am in San Diego for the annual NAPO National Association of Professional Organizers conference, today we had a Leadership meeting, where we discussed our Strategic Plan and I had the opportunity to address the leadership regarding what some of the tasks will be for our chapter!
  • I will be hunting down new products to help my clients be better organized.
  • I am now writing articles for RadnorPatch an exciting new way of getting information out to the local community.
  • Next week I will be speaking to Women in Transportation in Philadelphia.

New Tools:

As soon as I finish writing this I will be on my way to discover new products for you!  I hope you can wait until next month!

Recent and Ongoing Projects

Construction Project Working with a client to prepare for a construction project in her home, we are eliminating clutter, organizing what she is keeping and we helped her with the space plan for storage.

Unstuck Client I have a client who has been somewhat "stuck" in her life. She desires more, but it wasn't happening. We talked about clarifying what she is looking for. The conversation took a turn towards something that I had learned the day before from my mastermind girls (thank you), this became her Aha! moment (as Oprah calls it). She went out that weekend and focused on her goals and has taken some very strong steps to make some of the changes she is looking for!

Your project can be next!

Resoures

  • Some challenges of recycling are that some items need to be shipped, I avoid that, it doesn't seem very green to me.
  • Making it worthwhile- it's hard to make a trip to Pottstown sound worthwhile for many of you, however if you partner with someone else you can alternate making the trip.
  • Other items that can be recycled are items made by Patagonia, crayons, sneakers, eyeglasses, cards (the Hallmark kind), packing peanuts, smoke detectors, fluorescent light bulbs, floppy discs, VHS & cassette tapes, CDs, carpet...there are more specialized places that will take these items (see google link above).
Have a happy, healthy, stress free spring!
