Tip #1 - Use 'em or lose 'em?
Don't wait - get out and spend those gift certificates. It's free money - plus, there is an increasing risk that some companies will declare bakruptcy, making your gift worthless. Retailers estimate that almost 25% of all gift cards are never redeemed - don't be a statistic.
Tip #2 -
Do it every day!
"File, don't pile" is a cliche - because it's true. If you don't do one, you'll get the other. Get 3 baskets, File, Trash/Shred , and Do, and once every day, deal with your paper! Make it a habit.
Tip #3
Save your photos & files!
Back up your computers online, if anything happens to your house, you will be happy to have your files and photos. Recommended online back up services are available through carbonite.com and mozy.com.
No hardware, constant backups what could be better?
Tip #4
Be efficient...Use online grocery shopping service, this is a huge timesaver, this service saves both time and money,
- No driving back and forth, no waiting in lines
- Your order history is maintained, so it is easy to order
- They have special deals for delivery and you get all the store deals
- Eliminate impulse shopping
Even if you only use this service for drinks, and non perishables you will save both time and money

January Success Story
Marcie (not her real name) came to me for help with her filing system, ultimately she wanted to be able to track her family's expenses and assets. She and her husband were sharing filing duty, and they each had their own system in the same filing cabinet. Files were duplicated, others were impossible to locate.
We developed a single coherent filing system that even her husband loves (he was a doubter), and outsourced the installation of Quicken for their finances.
In addition to time saved and stress eliminated she also found:
- credit cards she forgot she had (a potential identity theft issue), and
- a money market account worth over $127,000, which they thought was in a different institution.
All Marcie's banking and credit transactions are now regularly downloaded to her computer, now she has full knowledge of the family finances at her fingertips. During this time they had to take over a parent's finances, and this additional responsibility was easily absorbed into their filing and bill paying tasks.
Marcie and her husband are ecstatic about their new systems. Now they can lay their hands on anything, and it all takes a fraction of the time it used to. This has led the family to be more in control over their lives in many new ways, and has lowered the stress levels in the family.
