A Note from the Director:
Many thanks to many businesses, churches and individuals who helped make our September Golf Marathon and October Garage Sale a success, special thanks for Vermeer Corporation and Marion County Bank for being hole sponsors, and Dahm Dental and KLK Construction for helping sponsor as well!
The end of October and November are busy with our 2nd Annual Fall Brunch, another completion service and church visits. Please keep us in our prayers (see side for specific prayer requests & needs) as we continue to walk with women in their journey with Jesus.
Thank you for your partnership and hope you enjoy another story of a life forever changed. We couldn't do this without your help! |

Abby's Story
Growing up I always had this sense of loneliness. My biological father, who is an alcoholic, left while my mom was still pregnant with me and my mother was a busy single mother of 4 young children. Church was foreign to me as was God. So when I hit junior high, I turned to boys and alcohol to fill the void that I felt. In high school, I found myself in an abusive relationship, but I didn't want to let that go with the fear of feeling that loneliness again. So I kept drinking and started using drugs to numb the pain.
After I graduated, I moved from my hometown to break away from the relationship, but my drinking and using continued. Within the same year of moving I immediately found myself in another bad relationship. I was pretty much emotionally spent.
I had some health issues that led to a couple surgeries where I was prescribed pain medication. I became hooked almost instantly. The next seven years of my life revolved around taking the next pill. Then at the age of 28, I gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl. I wanted so badly to be a mom and I loved my daughter with everything in me, but when you don't love yourself it's almost impossible to convey your love to someone else. Not to mention I was still very addicted to the pills.
I knew I needed help. I had tried 4 or 5 secular treatments and failed out of each one. Something was just missing and I didn't know what is was or how to find it. Then, one day, while talking with my mom, she mentioned hearing about a program called Teen Challenge and they had a pretty high success rate. I got some info about the program and went back and forth on making a decision for a couple of months. I was pretty unsure about the whole Christianity thing-mostly because I knew very little about it, but I was desperate and at a point willing to try anything to change my life.
I entered the program October 26th of 2009 and gave my life to God two weeks later. My life hasn't been the same since! I am amazed by this person named Jesus, and by following His ways I have received more blessings than I can count. One of those blessings being my life. Now I am able to be the mother that my daughter deserves, and able to be the person that He perfectly made me to be. |
