Maybe Girlfriends Aren't a Spending Hazard

So guess who spends more when shopping with friends?

Women, who love to shop together, because they egg each other on ("Ooh, that looks so cute on you-you have to get it!").
Men, who rarely shop in groups, but get competitive when they're with a pal. ("Actually, the $4,000 rider-mower is more my speed.")
While the stereotype of women roaming the mall in hordes persists, it turns out that men are the ones more likely to overspend when accompanied by a friend, says Jeffrey Inman, professor of marketing at the University of Pittsburgh business school.
Inman and his colleagues conducted live, in-store studies of men and women in different retail situations. One was a simple assignment to buy batteries. The other was a trip to a mass retailer like Target.
The report will be published this October in the Journal of Marketing Research.
Men spent about 7% more on batteries when they shopped with someone they'd met previously (in this case a confederate, who was part of the experiment) compared to shopping alone-and 56% more at the mass retailer.
Women showed little change in how much they spent when they were accompanied or alone.
"Men tend to spend more because their social expectation is to show off," says Inman. "It didn't matter whether they were with female or male companions."
Of course, researchers weren't able to observe shopping behavior with real friends. If the studies were replicated with people's real friends, we posit that men would still show off, and women would spend more going out to eat

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we have into enough, and more.  It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.  It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.  Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."

DIY: Coffee Body Scrub

2 c.coarsly ground coffee

1/2 c. sugar (or sea salt)

2-3 T. massage oil

Optional:

1 t. vanilla extract

brown sugar -enough to reach desired texture

Mix all ingredients together.  Take a hot shower to open up your pores.  Using wide, circular motions, rub the coffee scrub onto your skin with strong, even pressure.  The circular motion helps distribute the caffeine and gently removes dead skin cells.   If you can, leave it on for 15 minutes, rinse, pat dry and lotion up.  Now you're awake!!!

Did ya' know...

No more cellulite. While coffee is wonderful for many reasons, it is actually the caffeine it contains that provides the added health benefits as a scrub. When coffee is applied to the surface of your skin, it helps redistribute fat cells and decrease the formation of cellulite.

Problems with varicose veins. Many people accept varicose veins as a necessary evil--either as a sign of getting older or a predisposition inherited from Mom or Dad. Now with a coffee body scrub skin care routine, you may be able to prevent varicose veins or even make them vanish! The caffeine in a coffee scrub acts as a vascular restrictor--shrinking blood vessels, thus helping to reduce varicose veins.

Clean Green Window Cleaner

1/2 t. Castile or plant based liquid soap

2 T. distilled white vinegar

2 c. water

Pour all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake.  Spray onto window and wipe clean with a newspaper or 100% cotton cloth.**

Helpful hint:  The liquid soap included in this recipe helps remove any streak causing wax left on the window from commercial cleaners used in the past.  You can eliminate the soap after a few washings.

Safety note:  Always be careful to label containers of homemade cleaners and keep them out of reach of children.
