So we have turned the page to March, and as much as I would like to think that winter is gone, and spring is here... unfortunately,  I think that might be jumping the gun just a bit!  As a consolation prize, I offer you a little something to  help ease the last  few weeks of this long, long, long (did I mention - long?) winter...

Spiced Hot Dark Chocolate

1 quart milk
6 oz dark chocolate
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
 1/8-1/4 t. ground cardamom
1/8 t. ground cayenne pepper
1/8 t. coarse salt

In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients and whisk over medium-low heat until the chocolate has melted completely and the mixture is steaming hot; about 5 minutes.

And if, like my brother and his wife who live in Washington, D.C., you are one of my customers living in the Northeast - after the winter you have had - I would suggest adding some sort of a liquor to your hot chocolate (HA!)... or just go with this next beverage, which is certain to warm the bones!!
Cheers!
Gunner

6 oz. full-bodied medium roast coffee
1 shot-2oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
1 shot-1 oz. Bailey's Irish Cream
1 shot-1 oz. Kahlua

Optional: The rim of the cup can be coated with cinnamon sugar and the drink can be topped with whipped cream, if desired.
Note: The amount of coffee can be reduced, and the amount of liquor can be increased - based on how cold it is outside!
"Nummy Nums"

Named after a pretzel snack that that we purchased from a little shop in California many moons ago. My daughter loved them, so this was my attempt to "reproduce" them...

1 lb. bag tiny twist pretzels
1/3 cup canola oil
1 envelope Hidden valley Ranch Dressing (I use "lite")
1 T. dill weed
1/2 T. lemon pepper
1/2 T. garlic powder (or garlic salt, if you prefer)

Whisk all ingredients (except pretzels) together and then pour over pretzels, mixing until all pretzels are well coated.  Spread on a large baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees for approximately 4 minutes.  Stir, and bake for another 4 minutes (approximately).  Stir again, and then allow to cool.  Store in an airtight container!!

Greetings!
Hello friends - and Happy March!  Although there is still snow on the ground; for me, this is a month of hope and promise and new beginnings... The promise that Springtime will eventually find us - and oh, what a welcome thought that is!!!   For me, there is no more glorious season than Spring - and it is only fitting that I should be celebrating a "new beginning" of my very own... I have decided to take Creations, primarily a "cocktail/entertaining" themed giftware company, and expand it to include many different aspects of "unique giftware". Some of these changes will take me back to my earlier days with Creations (2002), and many of you that I have spoken with are excited for the return of some of the "oldies but goodies"...  painted salt & pepper shakers, my "relaxation" bath salts, and even some gift baskets!!  New items will range from "hand-crafted" goodies to carefully selected giftware and home decor items.  No worries - I will still continue to carry all of my hand-painted glassware, plates and accessory pieces - so those of you who are my "out-of-towners" will not see much of a change.  For those of you who are here in Kansas City - expect big changes for my Creations booth at Trendz in the near future - possibly even a new location within Trendz!!
Anyway - this story will continue to unfold, and I will definitely keep you updated!  If you have any comments/suggestions - please let me know!! You know that I always love hearing from all of you - You are THE BEST!!!
Cheers - to new beginnings...
Cathy

McQuillan walked into the local pub in Ireland and ordered martini after martini, each time removing the olives and placing them in a jar.  When the jar was filled with olives and all the drinks consumed, he started to leave.
"S'cuse me," said O'Connor, who was puzzled over what McQuillan had done.  "What was that all about?"
"Nothing," he replied, "my wife just sent me out for a jar of olives."

March is the month for Goin' Green!!!
OK - I'll admit that I'm a bit obsessed with the whole concept of "reduce, re-use, recycle" - just ask my family!  But we are all here sharing this planet and hoping to make it a better place for our grandchildren... right?  So here are some simple things that we can all do to make the world a bit more green...

  • Turn off the lights!  (this one kinda makes me crazy at home)
  • Use "greener" cleaners ** (see below)
  • Find new uses for old things (LOVE this one!  It's fun!!)
  • Bring your own bag to the grocery store, Target, Walmart, the mall...
  • Buy products made from recycled materials
  • Choose reusable instead of disposable products.  I have to say that we were a little ahead of the trend and did cloth diapers almost 20 years ago (with twins) - but how about just starting with something simple like taking your coffee mug from home and getting a "refill" instead of using a paper coffee cup... (my husband is really good about this one!)

It's all about "baby steps"...
just start somewhere!

And to get you started - here's a "greener cleaner" for you to try out...
**All-Purpose Scrub
 1/2 cup baking soda
plant based liquid soap
1/2 of a lemon
Pour baking soda into a bowl.  Add just enough liquid soap to make a creamy paste.  Spread mixture on the flat side of the lemon and scrub.  The lemon acts like a sponge and leaves a natural citrus scent.  Use a damp rag or sponge to wipe away any residue.  You'll find the paste will stay moist for a few hours.

The lemon is really just a bonus...  If you do not have a lemon, just use a sponge.  It just won't have that fantastic smell!!
May good luck be with you
Wherever you go
And your blessings outnumber
the shamrocks that grow.
