"A Touch of Glass"
December 2009 / Volume 3; Issue 12 |

| Greetings!
Anyone who knows me very well knows that I believe in Santa Claus.
Always have - always will.
Yes - we are bombarded with an over-commercialized, greedy society view of what the Christmas season is supposed to be. Santa often takes the blame for somehow conflicting with the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of Jesus - but that's not the spirit of my Santa Claus...
As a little girl growing up in St. Louis, I felt the spirit of Santa Claus when my dad would decide to drive home the long (long, long...) way on Christmas Eve, just so that I would be able to get a magical glimpse of Rudolph on the top of the Arch (still brings tears to my eyes...) I felt the spirit of Santa Claus when my mom would help us make candles, glittered goodies and other homemade gifts for family members. Every Thanksgiving & Christmas my grandpa would get plates of food from our holiday dinner together and we would deliver them to all of the elderly/homebound neighbors on their street. My grandma, who - by the way - looked exactly like Mrs. Claus (white hair - round, rosy cheeks...) made us a gingerbread house to decorate every single year. Yes - my childhood was filled with the spirit of Santa Claus... but in the true spirit of Santa Claus - it cannot stop there...! It lives on day after day, year after year. It is the way we treat others on a daily basis. It is feeding the hungry and sharing what we have with others. It is giving gifts of the heart. It is continuing traditions from the past and creating new ones that will carry into the future. It is living out the very spirit of Santa Claus year-round... "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life it's highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! ... Thank God he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood."
May you always believe...
Peace -
Cathy

Holiday Tidbits...
- IMPORTANT!!! The last day to order hand-painted glassware/accessories is this Sunday, December 6!!! After that date, you will still be able to purchase anything that I have in stock (or if here in Kansas City - what I have on the shelves at Trendz!). My kids come home from college on December 15 - and from that point on - it's all about them!! :)
- The #1 seller in glassware this season was "Jingle Bells"... Many bells were jingled. One (delightful) new customer was so "jingled" that she ordered 5 sets!
- Rene Buzicky held the top position of "most plates in one order" - coming in with a 10 plate order. You go girl...
- Give yourself a break this holiday season - and just remind yourself to KISS every single day!!! (Keep It Super Simple!!)

Jalepeno Poppers
6 jalepeno peppers, cut in half and seeded
1/2 cup cream cheese
Stonewall Kitchen Red Pepper Jelly
-
Place prepared jalepeno peppers on a foil lined baking pan, cut sides down.
-
Place pan under broiler and cook peppers until charred and tender.
-
Remove peppers from oven. Fill peppers with cream cheese. Return to oven and heat under broiler until cheese begins to melt. Top with Stonewall Kitchen Red Pepper Jelly. Serve warm.
The green peppers and the red jelly make this a beautiful holiday appetizer!!
Goat Cheese and Red Pepper Jelly
Have a little red pepper jelly left over...? Great!!
Grab some crackers and a little goat cheese. Spread the goat cheese on the crackers, top with a little red pepper jelly, and garnish with a little cilantro leaf. (Again - we've got that "red/green" thing going on...)

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.
Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.
We should have known... Only women would be able to drag around a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost... |
