Words Of Wine Wisdom
purple grapes
Aroma - The scent of a wine - frequently used interchangeably with the word "bouquet."  Some tasters apply the word aroma only to the fruit-like fragrance of a young wine, and subsequently refer to the more complex smells of bottle-aged wines as bouquet.

Elegant - Describes beautiful, well-balanced wines; graceful, not necessarily full-bodied.

Rich - An expression indicating opulent, full flavors - not necessarily sweet.

Spicy - A complementary description applicable to many fine wines: Syrah usually displays a pepper spice character; Pinot Noir frequently has suggestions of cinnamon; and oak barrels contribute a vanilla-spice element.

Greetings!

So here we are in February - and that always means Good news/Bad news.  Let's get the bad news over with first - It's COLD!!!  (For most of us, anyway!) The good news is - It's the month of love and romance... and the perfect "medication" for a case of the "winter blahs" is WINE and CHOCOLATE!  (In my case, that's red wine and dark chocolate - in no particular order!)   I've also got another really good boost for the winter blahs...  Practice the art of "paying it forward" - where you do something nice for a stranger (love your neighbor) - just because.  It will make them feel good; it will make you feel even better!  I send this newsletter out to more than 800 people every month.  If half of you did something for just one person, and then they turned around and did something for someone else, who in turn did something...  (OK - you get the point!!)   Let's just call it a challenge - to do ONE THING this month for a stranger, and then send me the details.  I will even draw a name from the entries and have a PRIZE!!!  Remember that the idea is to be anonymous - not to seek recognition.  I actually got caught "paying it forward" in the Starbucks drive thru one time.   The gal taking the money was so excited that I was paying for the people behind me that she forgot to give me my coffee - and I didn't realize it until after I pulled away!  I jumped out of my car and ran back to the window in an effort to retrieve my coffee BEFORE she told them, covering my face with my arm, and yelling "Don't look at me - you're not supposed to see me!!"  It was all rather amusing really.  At a minimum, it gave those two guys something to laugh about!
So do ONE THING for someone this month... thenpour yourself a glass of wine, nibble on a few chocolates, and email me the details.  Winter may still be here - but we've got the "blah" part covered!!
Cheers!
Cathy

*  This recipe dedicated to Valentine's Day 1980 - My first date with my husband of almost 25 years...
A quote that I gave my hubbie on a frame...
"If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you."
-  Winnie-the-Pooh

I did NOT give my hubbie this quote, however...
(Lady Astor to Sir Winston Churchill)
"Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink."
(His reply)
"Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it."
