What is the Blunt Amendment?

The text of the Blunt Amendment is taken directly from the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (S. 1467). It would amend the Obama health care law to prevent the imposition of regulatory mandates that violate the religious or moral convictions of those who purchase or provide health insurance.  The Blunt Amendment is being offered as an amendment to the pending transportation bill.

Why is this legislation important?

Exactly the same statutory authority present in the health care law could be used by this or a future administration to mandate that all health plans pay for elective abortion on demand. Repealing the mandate will ensure that conscience rights are protected and that we in the United States will not be paying for even more abortions in the future.

From Senator Landrieu's recent comments, it appears she will side with the mandate. It is up to us to spread the word and encourage action.  Forward this email and post on Facebook/Twitter using the buttons above.

Contact Senator Landrieu and ask her to vote yes on the Blunt Amendment to end the HHS mandate.

P.S. The HHS mandate opens the door for future mandates that could require all health insurance plans to cover abortion. We cannot give abortion advocates the leeway necessary to make passing these mandates possible. Act now and contact Senator Landrieu in hopes we can stop this and other future mandates.
