Greetings!

In one month from today, the Louisiana legislature will close its doors on another state legislative session. 

In these 30 days, we have a lot of work left to finish strong and pass some critical pro-life legislation!

Here is an update on where all our legislation stands, and what you can do to help pass these life-saving bills.

Ultrasound Before Abortion Act (SB 528 by Sen. Broome D-Baton Rouge)

• WHAT: Requires ultrasounds to be done before all abortions, and gives women the opportunity to see the ultrasound image and receive ultrasound print-out.
  
• NOW: Passed the Senate floor on Tuesday evening by a vote of 33-4!  The debate was passionate as Senator Broome, along with Senators Nevers, Long, Crowe, and Nick Gautreaux, fought off attempts by Senators Butch Gautreaux, Heitmeier, Peterson, and Jackson to weaken the bill (read LifeSiteNews or Advocate coverage).
• NEXT: Headed to the House Health & Welfare Committee. Contact the House H&W Cmte.

Abortion Insurance Opt-Out Act (HB 1247 by Rep. Hoffman R-Monroe)

• WHAT: Opts Louisiana out of the abortion aspects of national health care reform, and prohibits private insurance coverage of abortion.
  
• NOW:  Already passed House Insurance committee and House floor.
  
• NEXT:  Awaiting hearing in Senate Health & Welfare Cmte. Contact Senate H&W Cmte.

Abortion Facility Shut-Down Act (HB 1370 by Rep. Mills D-Parks)

• WHAT: Gives DHH power to shut abortion facilities down if not in compliance with law.
  
• NOW: Already passed House H&W and House floor.
• NEXT: Awaiting hearing in Senate Health & Welfare Committee. Contact Senate H&W Cmte. 
  

Choose Life License Plate Technical Fix (HB 528 by Rep. Hoffman R-Monroe)

• NOW: Bill passed House and Senate!!

As you see, there is plenty left to do, and contacting your Representative and Senator, especially if they are on one of these committees, would be very helpful.
