ACTION ALERT
New Senate Health Care Bill Funds Abortion
Senator Landrieu is a key swing vote

November 19, 2009

Greetings!

Sorry for two emails in two days, but we have an urgent request:

Please contact Senator Landrieu and ask her to vote no on the "motion to proceed" on Senator Reid's health care bill!

Reach her Washington office at 202.224.5824.  Find more contact info here.  Remember to give them your address and ask them to get back with you on where the Senator stands.

Last night, Senator Reid rejected the bipartisan "Stupak" language passed by the House that prohibits the federal funding of abortion.  Instead, Senator Reid introduced a bill that authorizes the federal funding of abortion through the "public option" and allows federal subsidies to help purchase private plans that fund abortion.

The Senate is expected as early as Saturday to vote on a 'motion to proceed' on the Reid bill.  If the bill proceeds, it will be virtually impossible to remove abortion funding on the floorThe 'motion to proceed' requires 60 votes, so if only 1 Democrat in the Senate votes no, the bill is halted.

Please call and email Senator Landrieu and urge her to oppose the 'motion to proceed' on Sen. Reid's health care bill!

For a Pro-Life Louisiana,

Benjamin Clapper
Executive Director
Louisiana Right to Life Federation

P.S. Even the media is holding Senator Landrieu up as one of three key Senators that could halt this bill.  This could be our only shot to remove abortion funding on the Senate side!
