Metairie, LA - On Wednesday, Louisiana's Choose Life License
Plate Fund disbursed $64,421.20 equally to 20 agencies actively assisting women
and babies in need.
The plate's fund has now disbursed over $100,000 to
qualifying agencies since its inception in 1999. Two legal battles, which were decided in the Choose Life
plate's favor, stalled production from 2000-2002 and from
2003-2006.
Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of the Louisiana Right
to Life Educational Committee, commented, "Today, 20 heroic agencies, from
Monroe to Metairie, will receive a little bit of help from drivers in Louisiana
that proudly display a Choose Life license plate on their car. Amidst the many legal battles of the past
10 years, we are reminded today of the purpose of the plate: helping women and
babies in need."
For every Choose Life license plate on the road, $25 a year
is collected and placed in the Choose Life Fund. According to Louisiana Revised Statute 47:463.61, the
Louisiana Right to Life Educational Committee, Inc. is charged with the
responsibility of distributing the funds to qualified agencies, that among
other things, cannot participate in advocating or counseling for abortion in
any way.
"We are confident these funds will assist these 20 agencies
in offering healthy and life-affirming choices, such as adoption and
parenting, to women. And of course, the more
plates on the road, the more funds that will be available to these agencies, so
get your plate today!" Clapper
finished.
