The Client Advocacy Committee is re-organizing and expanding its role!

The Client Advocacy Committee traditionally acts as the liaison between Desert AIDS Project clients and staff by reviewing client questions, comments, and suggestions and addressing them with the agency.  In the past, the committee has assisted with the implementation of client suggestions, including the creation of the Dental Clinic and the Medical Clinic waiting room.  The committee is now expanding its role to act as the liaison between clients and elected officials by interacting with members of our State Assembly, Congress, and the Inland Empire HIV Planning Council However, in order to continue functioning, the committee needs to recruit at least six (6) new members.

  • Would you like to have a voice in the client/agency relationship at D.A.P.?
  • Do you have ideas about how to improve the client experience?
  • Do you have suggestions about new or existing programs or services offered at D.A.P.?
  • Would you like to communicate with our elected officials about the importance of HIV/AIDS funding?

There will be a committee reorganization and member recruitment meeting on January 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM for clients interested in continuing the important work of the committee.  This is an opportunity for you to have a voice in creating the type of committee that YOU think best serves clients and to create positive change at Desert AIDS Project.  If you cannot attend the meeting, you can still submit an application to join the committee.  Applications are available online or at the D.A.P. front reception desk. HIV/AIDS News

The Positive Project

The Positive Project is the world's largest collection of personal video stories from people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.  The Positive Project believes that if you cannot talk about HIV, you cannot change it. They are coming to Palm Springs soon, and are specifically searching for HIV+ transgendered individuals, and others with compelling stories, to film.  If you're interested in having your personal story filmed to help educate the world, please contact them directly at contact@thepositiveproject.org.  Check out the website and view some videos.  (lg)  GO

Gardasil approved for the prevention of anal cancer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the vaccine Gardasil for the prevention of anal cancer and associated precancerous lesions due to human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16, and 18 in people ages 9 through 26 years. It is also approved for the prevention of genital warts caused by types 6 and 11 in both males and females. Although anal cancer is uncommon in the general population, the incidence is increasing. HPV is associated with approximately 90 percent of anal cancer. Gardasil will not prevent the development of anal precancerous lesions associated with HPV infections already present at the time of vaccination. For all of the indications for use approved by the FDA, Gardasil's full potential for benefit is obtained by those who are vaccinated prior to becoming infected with the HPV strains contained in the vaccine. Quote of the Week

Another fresh new year is here

Another year to live!

To banish worry, doubt, and fear,

To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me

To live each day with zest...

To daily grow and try to be

My highest and my best!

I have the oppportunity,

once more, to right some wrongs,

To pray for peace, to plant a tree,

And sing more joyful songs!
