This Week!
Prevention Efforts Aimed at College Students with a History of Blackouts Could Reduce Injuries and Emergency Department Costs

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin studied emergency department visits among college students at five universities over two years. They found that frequent blackout sufferers were more likely to be treated at the emergency department during the two-year follow-up period than students who consumed the same amount of alcohol but did not experience blackouts.

The U.S. Department of Education will NOT be hosting a 2012 National Meeting on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention in Higher Education. The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012
did not provide funding for this meeting, nor is there funding to run discretionary grant competitions to address alcohol and other drug abuse and violence prevention on college campuses as was intended, and as requested in the President's FY 2012 budget request.
