Free, Self-Paced Online Training: "Conducting a Campus-Based Needs Assessment for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention"
During these challenging economic times, campus alcohol and other drug abuse (AOD) prevention professionals are being asked to do more with less. To be most effective, prevention professionals should complete a strategic plan, beginning with a needs assessment. Conducting a needs assessment provides campus professionals with information to help guide the development of evidence-based programs and policies to prevent and mitigate the continued high rates of AOD use among college students. A campus-based needs assessment will help identify available resources, determine the scope and setting of AOD problems, and assist prevention staff in selecting appropriate evidence-based strategies.
Date: March 2012
Registration: Will be available in early March
For more information, please visit the Center's Web site.
Free Training Institute: "Translating Research to Practice - Overcoming Barriers to Implementing Effective Off-Campus Party Prevention" Participants will build upon existing skills to learn how to implement evidence-based prevention strategies to reduce the problems related to off-campus parties.

Location: Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront, Portland, Oregon. A special $113/night rate (single or double occupancy) will be available.

February Is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month
President Obama has declared February 2012 to be National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. The January 31, 2012, proclamation states, "In America, an alarming number of young people experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse as part of a controlling or violent dating relationship. The consequences of dating violence - spanning impaired development to physical harm - pose a threat to the health and well-being of teens across our Nation, and it is essential we come together to break the cycle of violence that burdens too many of our sons and daughters. This month, we recommit to providing critical support and services for victims of dating violence and empowering teens with the tools to cultivate healthy, respectful relationships."
