This Week! Resources for Sexual Assault Response Teams
The Office of Justice Programs' Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has released an online toolkit for communities that want to develop or improve sexual assault response teams (SARTs). Developed by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center with support from OVC, the toolkit provides information and resources for establishing and/or enhancing collaborative, multidisciplinary SARTs to respond effectively to victims of sexual assault.

Spaces Available for "Improving Campus Climate for LGBT Students"
During this two-day Training Institute, participants will build upon existing skills to improve their own campus climate, support effective alcohol and other drug abuse and violence prevention on college campuses for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) college students, and learn how policies can bring about long-lasting positive changes that increase LGBT students' retention and academic success.
All Center services are offered free of charge. However, participants pay their own travel, lodging, and food.

Register Now for Online Training: "Preventing Violence and Promoting Safety in Higher Education Settings"
This online training will introduce participants to a set of principles and a strategic planning process that campus and community stakeholders can use to design a comprehensive and effective violence prevention initiative. The training will be moderated and will use a mix of exercises and activities to enhance understanding and help participants apply the concepts to their own campus and community context.

Register Today! 2011 APIASF Higher Education Summit
The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) will be hosting the "APIASF College Completion Forum: Strengthening Institutions That Serve Asian American and Pacific Islanders" on June 27, 2011, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. This multicultural forum will highlight the national college completion agenda and its effect on the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, new research by the National Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Research in Education, best practices for supporting the success of all underserved students, networking opportunities, and information on Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-serving institutions. The APIASF Higher Education Summit is free and open to anyone who would like to attend.
The day will conclude with a special networking reception co-hosted by APIASF, the Organization of Chinese Americans, and the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center to recognize the work of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and the agencies that have contributed to its success.

Action Summit for Suicide Prevention Sponsored by the Indian Health Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Indian Education, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "Partnering with Tribes to Protect the Circle of Life" will feature nationally recognized speakers, behavioral health providers, tribal leaders, health care providers, law enforcement, first responders, and school personnel committed to addressing emergent suicide and substance abuse prevention issues in Indian country. This free event will provide up-to-date research, best practices, and promising practices to address suicide and substance abuse prevention, intervention, and aftercare in Indian country. A limited number of scholarships are available to cover the costs of attendance. If interested, please contact Oscar Morgan; scholarship application deadline is July 1, 2011. There is no registration deadline for the conference but block rate room cut-off date is July 15.

CSAP Service to Science Initiative: Call for Nominations The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announces a Call for Nominations to its Service to Science initiative, a national initiative dedicated to enhancing the evaluation capacity of innovative programs and practices that aim to prevent substance abuse and related mental and behavioral health problems or the underlying factors associated with increased risk. Operated by SAMHSA's Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT), Service to Science assists local program developers, implementers, and evaluators in applying more rigorous evaluation methodologies to their work. Ultimately, the initiative supports state prevention efforts by increasing the number of local programs that meet evidence-based standards. In order to participate in Service to Science, programs must be nominated by their State Alcohol and Drug Agency (Single State Agency, or SSA) or National Prevention Network (NPN) representative. Upcoming Summit on Campus Safety
Lehigh University and Security On Campus, Inc. (SOC), will present the summit, "Proceeding in Partnership: The Future of Campus Safety," on September 29, during National Campus Safety Awareness Month. The event will feature panel discussions on sexual violence, alcohol and other drug abuse, and emergency response. Participants at the summit will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from researchers and practitioners about programs that have demonstrated success in improving campus safety.

New Prevention Organization: School and College Organization for Prevention Educators A new organization, School and College Organization for Prevention Educators (SCOPE), is now welcoming charter members. The organization serves as an interdisciplinary hub for prevention educators and is the first of its kind to encompass the full breadth and depth of the field of prevention. SCOPE prioritizes the advancement of primary prevention research, practice, and implementation and aims to bridge the many subfields of prevention by joining together prevention professionals from across the prevention disciplines to learn from one another, explore best practices, and further shared goals.
