This Week! Implementing Bystander Intervention and Violence Prevention on Campus

The National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women (VAWnet.org) recently published a summary of how the bystander approach can be implemented on college and university campuses. The summary also suggests related resources and strategies for integrating bystander intervention into a comprehensive violence prevention initiative.

Upcoming Online Training: "Preventing Violence and Promoting Safety in Higher Education Settings"

The Center's online training will introduce participants to a set of principles and a strategic planning process that campus and community stakeholders can use to design a comprehensive and effective violence prevention initiative. The training will touch on multiple aspects of effective strategic planning, including assessing problems on campus, using data to inform strategy design, coordinating prevention efforts, building prevention infrastructure, and working in partnerships. This session benefits participants whose primary responsibilities include violence prevention as well as other stakeholders who collaborate with violence prevention practitioners.

 

Dates: July 18-29, 2011

Registration Open: 8th Annual INEBRIA Conference 

The International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol Problems (INEBRIA) conference will communicate new findings from research on screening and brief intervention (SBI, also known as early identification and brief intervention, EIBI), foster professional collaborations, and facilitate the development and dissemination of SBI research, with a particular focus on implementation and sustainability. Early bird reduced rates available until July 15.

New Campus Staff and Faculty Suicide Prevention Listserv

The recently launched College Student Suicide (CSSP) listserv serves as a tool for university personnel (staff, faculty members) working to prevent college student suicide on their campus. The purpose of this forum is to exchange ideas, promote discussion, and generally improve the quality of suicide prevention programming on college campuses.

 

To be added to the listserv, e-mail Marian Trattner of the University of Texas at Austin to indicate your interest and include your name and title or role in suicide prevention programming.
