This Week! The Partnership at Drugfree.org Releases 2010 Partnership Attitude Tracking Study
The 22nd annual Partnership Attitude Tracking Study (PATS) confirms an upward trend in drug use among adolescents and highlights that underage drinking has become more normalized among this group. The data reported can serve as a context for understanding substance use attitudes and behavior among college students and can assist institutions of higher education in determining priority prevention initiatives.

New Case Study: Finger Lakes Community College Campus
Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) Campus-Community Coalition (CCC) has established a strong working relationship with the community to promote a caring and civil atmosphere that benefits all. Coalition members include student leaders, professional staff, and faculty from FLCC; law enforcement representatives; community leaders; landlords; medical and health professionals; and a representative from the New York State Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Several coalition subcommittees are working on strategies that have proven effective in reducing risk factors for substance use, violence, and school dropout, as well as promoting school bonding and involvement in peer activities.

Limited Space Still Available! Building and Sustaining Statewide Initiatives for Effective Alcohol Prevention Webinar
This Webinar will highlight lessons learned and best practices from successful statewide initiatives (SWIs). Through an SWI, college administrators, state officials, community coalitions to reduce underage drinking, and other professional or trade associations (e.g., for chiefs of police or the hospitality industry) can collaborate to influence long-lasting environmental and public policy changes more effectively.

Call for Applications: 2011 Exemplary Awards The National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD) and its subsidiary organization, the National Prevention Network, have put out a call for applications for the 2011 National Exemplary Awards for Innovative Substance Abuse Prevention Programs, Practices and Policies. The program is supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. Applications are due June 20, 2011. Upcoming Free Webinar: Responding After a Suicide The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) Training Institute will host a Webinar, Responding After a Suicide: Best Practices for Schools. Schools that experience a suicide in their communities are often uncertain about how to respond. This Webinar will present safe and effective ways in which schools, and the organizations working with them, can respond following a suicide. Three speakers representing national and school-based perspectives will discuss relevant research, best practices and key resources, including a new online toolkit for schools. Upcoming Webinar: Earthquake Preparedness and School Emergency Management The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools and the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance Center is offering a new Webinar, providing information regarding earthquake preparedness and school emergency management planning for campuses, including institutions of higher education. The Webinar will present information and strategies for comprehensive, all-hazards school emergency management plans. Participants will learn about key prevention and mitigation strategies as well as key preparedness principles for designing effective responses and hastening the recovery process. The Webinar will also highlight the powerful role of training and exercise programs conducted in collaboration with community partners.
