  APIS Announces Update of Alcohol Policy Information

The Alcohol Policy Information System (APIS), a project of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, announces its latest update of state-by-state alcohol policies. Many of these changes are consistent with the goal of reducing underage drinking and its consequences as well as alcohol-related death and injury overall.

Save the Date! Upcoming Webinar: Building and Sustaining Statewide Initiatives for Effective Alcohol Prevention  Statewide initiatives (SWIs), or statewide coalitions, are concerted efforts by institutions of higher education, community organizations, and government officials in a state to change aspects of the campus and community environment that contribute to high-risk alcohol use. Long-lasting environmental change is accomplished by creating and mobilizing campus and community coalitions to local action and collaborating at the state level to advance policy and environmental change. This Webinar will also highlight lessons learned and best practices from successful SWIs.

Now Accepting Applications: Associate Project Director 

The Higher Education Center for Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Violence Prevention at Education Development Center, Inc. is looking for an Associate Project Director. The primary role of this position is to:

  1. Supervise Center technical and administrative staff.
  2. Work with the Center Director, Associate Center Director, and Project Associate to coordinate the financial management of the contract.
  3. Work closely with the Center Director and Associate Center Director to coordinate and carry out contract deliverables.
  4. Coordinate the work of project staff, as well as help coordinate various trainings and meetings, including training institutes, online trainings, emerging issues and expert panel meetings.

This is a full-time position, located on-site in Newton, Massachusetts.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) has designated this month as the 24th annual Alcohol Awareness Month. As noted on the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America Web site, many organizations and coalitions will mark the month with activities and a renewed focus on environmental management strategies.

 

The NCADD Web site provides a history of past initiatives, links to related resources, and a tool kit for those organizing events.

Join Together to Become Part of The Partnership at DrugFree.org

Join Together, a project of the Boston University School of Public Health, leads initiatives to help communities respond to the harms caused by excessive alcohol and drug use and provides a number of free services. The initiative has just announced that it is becoming a part of The Partnership™ at DrugFree.org, a nonprofit organization that helps parents prevent, intervene in, and find treatment for drug and alcohol use by their children. DrugFree.org will now have a dedicated Join Together tab on their Web site.
