April 2011 Designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April 2011 has been designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) are available to partner with public officials, college campuses, law enforcement, victim advocates, and communities to raise awareness.

Now Accepting Applications: Associate Project Director 

The Higher Education Center for Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Violence Prevention at Education Development Center, Inc. is looking for an Associate Project Director. The primary role of this position is to:

  1. Supervise Center technical and administrative staff.
  2. Work with the Center Director, Associate Center Director, and Project Associate to coordinate the financial management of the contract.
  3. Work closely with the Center Director and Associate Center Director to coordinate and carry out contract deliverables.
  4. Coordinate the work of project staff, as well as help coordinate various trainings and meetings, including training institutes, online trainings, emerging issues and expert panel meetings.

This is a full-time position, located on-site in Newton, Massachusetts.

Save the Date! Upcoming Webinar: Building and Sustaining Statewide Initiatives for Effective Alcohol Prevention   

Statewide initiatives (SWIs), or statewide coalitions, are concerted efforts by institutions of higher education, community organizations, and government officials in a state to change aspects of the campus and community environment that contribute to high-risk alcohol use. Long-lasting environmental change is accomplished by creating and mobilizing campus and community coalitions to local action and collaborating at the state level to advance policy and environmental change. This Webinar will also highlight lessons learned and best practices from successful SWIs.

Registration Now Open: Spring and Summer Positive Community Norms Trainings

The Center for Health and Safety Culture and MOST of UsŪ are offering two upcoming training opportunities.     

Spring 2011 Positive Community Norms Institute  

   

Dates: May 17-19, 2011

Location: Bozeman, MT

 

This Institute provides an opportunity to learn about the Positive Community Norms Process and the theory upon which it is built, The Science of the Positive™.  The program is designed for those interested in working with this process in the future.  

 

2011 Montana Summer Institute

   

Dates: July 12-14,2011

Pre-Institute: July 11, 2011

Location: Big Sky, MT

 

The Summer Institute is an opportunity for both beginners and advanced practitioners to learn about the Positive Community Norms model. The pre-Institute session is recommended for individuals who are new to the field or want an overview of the theory and practice of the Positive Community Norms model.

 

Free Event: Shattering the Silence of Sexual Violence  

Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment (PAVE) is hosting an interactive event as a kick-off to Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month, Media in the Movement: Shattering the Silence of Sexual Violence. The program will bring together nationally recognized experts as well as survivors of sexual assault to allow journalists, elected officials, and agencies to learn about ongoing concerns in the fight against sexual violence and empowering ways to bring attention to the issue.

Enter Now: SAMHSA-sponsored PSA contest

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (SAMHSA/CSAP) is hosting a Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest that provides young adults the opportunity to show how they are working to prevent alcohol and substance abuse and promote emotional well-being in their community.

 

The PSA contest will help kick off a new SAMHSA initiative called National Prevention Week 2012.  SAMHSA is inviting young adults, ages 18-25, to create a 15- or 30- second PSA that embraces the theme "We Are the Ones". The deadline is April 15, 2011.

The U.S. Department of Education has just released a new Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting for institutions of higher education working to meet the requirements of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and its amendments. This new resource includes the most recent updates to the Jeanne Clery Act, including the expansion of hate crime reporting and new emergency response and missing student guidelines. The Handbook is designed to help campus professionals better understand how to proactively apply the law. This edition replaces the 2005 document, Handbook for Campus Crime Reporting.

 

The new Handbook is available for download online.
