This Week! New Study: Increasing Alcohol Taxes Saves Lives, Reduces Crime

In a new study published in the American Journal of Public Health, health policy researchers at the University of Florida in Gainesville analyzed data from 50 studies examining the relationship between alcohol taxes, mortality, and risky behaviors. Researchers concluded that relatively small increases in price could reduce alcohol intake among heavy drinkers on tight budgets, college students, and social drinkers.

As the use of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, continues to increase exponentially, alcohol and other drug abuse and violence (AODV) prevention professionals are exploring whether and how to incorporate these tools into their work.

The presenters will share a set of planning principles based on health communication research and discuss their application to social media.
