This Week! Students Who Use Energy Drinks More Likely to Initiate Nonmedical Use of Prescription Drugs

Researchers analyzing data from the College Life Study have found that students who used energy drinks were significantly more likely to subsequently initiate nonmedical use of prescription stimulants and analgesics.

Upcoming Conference: National Forum on Campus Sexual Assault

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, in collaboration with the International Association of College Law Enforcement Administrators and the Virginia Association of College Law Enforcement Administrators, is hosting a National Forum on Campus Sexual Assault in Hampton, VA. The forum is designed to bring together experts in the field of campus sexual assault to discuss the latest research, policies, legal challenges, interdisciplinary cooperation, and reporting issues.

 

Structured to encourage a cross disciplinary approach to this issue, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the policies and procedures that must be in place for the management of sexual assaults and share expertise and resources with colleagues from across the country.

Dates: Wednesday, March 30 - Friday, April 1, 2011

Call for Presentations: 17th Annual GLBTIQQ Symposium
The 17th Annual University of Rhode Island Symposium on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and Questioning Issues encourages all to submit presentations for the upcoming conference, to be held April 4 - 9, 2011 in Kingston, RI.

Free Online Training Course: Conducting Compliance Check Operations

The Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center, a service of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention within the U.S. Department of Justice is offering a distance learning course. Participants will be able to:

  • Understand issues related to underage drinking and retail availability of alcohol to underage purchasers.
  • Motivate policymakers, communities, and law enforcement to place greater emphasis on alcohol compliance investigations and prevention of underage drinking.
  • Implement step-by-step guidelines for carrying out alcohol compliance investigations.
  • Identify barriers to compliance investigations and approaches to overcoming these barriers.
  • Utilize compliance investigations efficiently and effectively to deter sales to minors and demonstrate community norms against underage drinking.
