This Week! New, Redesigned SAMHSA Web Site
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has redesigned its Web site to more clearly represent its eight Strategic Initiatives.
The site is now organized by topic and features an easy-to-use online store which replaces the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) and the National Mental Health Information Center (NMHIC).
To view the changes, please visit SAMHSA and the SAMHSA publications store.
More information about This Week! Features can be viewed on the Center's Web site.
Hot Topic: FDA Warns that Alcoholic Energy Drinks are Unsafe, Adulterated, and Illegal The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sent warning letters to four producers of Alcoholic Energy Drinks (AEDs), informing them that their products are an "unsafe food product" and "adulterated" under federal law and therefore illegal. At this time, it appears that enforcement will be on a local and state level. To view the letters, visit the FDA here.
New Case Study Posted: University of Kentucky's Green Dot Violence Prevention Strategy The Green Dot program, a comprehensive approach to violence prevention that capitalizes on the power of peer and cultural influence, was implemented at University of Kentucky in 2006. Informed by social change theory, the model targets all community members as potential bystanders and seeks to engage them, through awareness, education, and skills practice, in proactive behaviors that establish intolerance of violence as the norm, as well as reactive interventions in high-risk situations-resulting ultimately in the reduction of power-based personal violence. To learn the research behind this strategy and more about University of Kentucky's program and evaluation, visit the Higher Education Center's Web site.
