This Week! New Study on Alcohol-Related Traffic Risk Behaviors Among College Students

Approximately 25 percent of college students report that they have driven while intoxicated in the past month. A new study finds that prevalence and frequency of alcohol-related traffic risk behaviors significantly increase when college students turn 21 years old.

Results are published in the August 2010 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.

New Prevention Update Posted: Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drug Abuse Prevention
Use of prescription drugs without a doctor's prescription or only for the experience or feeling they cause is commonly referred to as "nonmedical" use. Many prescription painkillers, when taken without a physician's direction, can cause serious adverse consequences and produce dependence and abuse. Stimulants, which have been dubbed "study drugs," are being used on college campuses to increase energy, alertness, mood, and well-being. These "study drugs" come with their own set of risks if they are taken without a prescription.
