This Week! U.S. Department of Education's National Meeting on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention in Higher Education Highlights

Center's Strategic Planning 101 Webinar Available for Viewing

On September 16, 2010, the Higher Education Center conducted a Webinar, Strategic Planning 101: How to Develop Effective Campus Alcohol Prevention.

 

This program helped participants develop skills to address alcohol-related problems in their campus communities and use a strategic planning work sheet to identify problems, goals, resources, partners, and effective strategies to bring about long-lasting change.

2011 Service to Science Initiative: Call for Nominations

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (SAMHSA/CSAP) and the Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) has issued a call for nominations to its Service to Science Initiative. This national initiative is dedicated to enhancing the evaluation capacity of innovative programs and practices that aim to prevent substance abuse and related mental and behavioral health problems or the underlying factors associated with increased risk.


The deadline for states to submit nominations, including campus-based AOD prevention programs, is October 15, 2010.

Monitoring the Future Reports Available Free of Charge Online

Each year since 1975, Monitoring the Future has published summary statistics from in-school surveys of high school seniors. Questions include drug use and views about drugs, delinquency and victimization, changing roles for women, confidence in social institutions, concerns about energy and ecology, and social and ethical attitudes.

 

The volume presenting the 2009 national survey results is now available, and can be downloaded free of charge. In addition, Monitoring the Future's 12th-grade descriptive results for nearly 2,000 items are now available in annual volumes for 1975 through 2009.
