It may not seem like your first pet has a thing to do with your sex life but have you considered that this was probably the first time you opened your heart to another sentient being in a way which included some mutuality and interdependence? Depending upon how that first relationship with a furry friend turned out, you may very well be carrying some of the emotional fall-out of that first love into subsequent relationships and ultimately into your love life.
