We look pretty happy on the set of our latest documentary don't we?  That's me with my ex-husband, Robert.  We just finished interviewing for The Women's Entertainment Network's new series, The Secret Lives of Women.  The topic?  Domestic Violence. You might wonder how we could be all smiles while addressing such a serious issue.  The answer lies in hard won victories over this secretive epidemic. 

 

The good news is that no matter how violent your childhood, your neighborhood or your current relationship, there ARE concrete solutions which can effectively and permanently move you into a safe and serene space.  The bad news is that as Americans we have a lot of work to do in this respect.  Our tolerance for violence is at an all time high and unless we see bruises or blood we often fail to identify violence. 

 

For instance, name-calling is a form of violence.  So is slamming doors or throwing things.  But too many of us think these sort of behaviors are normal and acceptable ways to "blow off steam."

 

My work is taking me deeper and deeper into anger management and successful problem solving in the context of intimate relationships.  It feels amazing to have made this journey myself and then to have the added blessing of being able to share the path to recovery with others.  I am hopeful that with this most recent television interview, we will begin to shift attitudes about violence so that more and more families will find themselves living lives which are both peaceful and passionate.
