That's a really good question. Sometimes I haven't been sure how to answer it either. I guess when you are too close to something it can be difficult to be objective. I know I don't dare call it therapy because the state I reside in has very strict laws pertaining to the licensing of therapists and I am not licensed. I thought about calling it counseling because that is something a minister can do and for purposes of client privacy I have registered as an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church. And I considered the term coaching but it is so overused at this point that I can't stand the sound of the word. Sorry.
For now I term it Professional Advice but I don't like that wording either. Over the past four years I have gotten very clear on what I do and why I love it. But I am still not sure what to call it. Maybe you have a good idea? And maybe after reading the description of what I do below, you will feel inclined to shoot me an email with your suggestion. Creating Change with the Courage to Care
There is political unrest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo once again. Fighting in the east has forced families from their homes, displacing more than 250,000 people. Children are being kidnapped and forced to fight. Authorities fear famine and disease will be soon to follow. And of course when humans solve their conflicts with violence, the environment and its innocent inhabitants suffer.
The DRC's mountain gorilla and bonobo populations are also under threat. Even the rangers who work to protect these noble animals are in dire straits. Some are on the run and others are missing. Some are feared dead. But there are organizations working to help the children of the Congo as well as the gorillas and bonobos. Wouldn't you feel better knowing you did something to help them?
