Stanford Professor Needs Your Help: A Personal Message from Dr.Zimbardo
You have seen him on The John Stewart Daily Show and CNN's Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. The controversial professor of Stanford Prison Experiment fame doesn't just pen books like The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil (Random House, 2007). He is also quite active in helping students around the world, both by offering guidance and mentoring as well as raising money to send them to college. Dr. Z as he is affectionately known, recently requested that I post this personal message from him to you:
Charitable donations are being gladly accepted for a fund to help send deserving high school students from the Sicilian villages of Cammarata and its twin town, San Giovanni Gemini, to Italian colleges.
It costs about $1500 (1000 Euros) for all first-year college expenses, really a modest amount. We are trying to give 8 or more scholarships annually for starting students to enroll into the university, and perhaps subsequent funding for those who perform well. Given the 41% unemployment rate in these towns, graduating from college with marketable skills is essential for these young people to have any hope of a successful future. They are highly motivated to succeed for themselves, and to be able to help their extended families live more fulfilling lives-- as were many earlier immigrants to the United States from Sicily, Italy, and other European countries.
We have set up an educational foundation to enable many of these young people to go to college, to travel abroad, and have access to computers (Overstock.com has gifted 20 new Dell PCs to these schools). All monies collected go directly to the students, with no administrative fees.
Please make your tax-deductible donations to:
WPF (Western Psychological Foundation) and note on your check that it is for: "High School Scholarships." Mail your gift directly to me:
Dr. Philip Zimbardo, 25 Montclair Terrace, San Francisco, CA 94109
For record keeping, you will receive an official notification of your charitable donation by Don Pannen, the CEO of the WPF, a 501-C3 Corporation.
Thanks so much. Ciao, Dr. Phil Zimbardo
