 Bad Girls Newsletter |
Greetings!
First of all, I cannot express how excited I am that we're now offering single kits for sale!! More about that in the newsletter below!
On to this months kit - I remember when I was in school I would always bring all my goodies with me to "play" with. I would hide comic books in my text books, write cute little letters to my girlfriends on pretty little note paper, put it in a cutsie tootsie little envelope and then tie it with the prettiest ribbon, doodle all over my folders and add cute little stickers..basicly I think I was destined to become an artist. Life just didn't seem fun without all my play things.
All of this was my inspiration for the April kit "Charm School Debutante". Prepare to be showered with lush colors..bold and bright..just pleading with you to create something fun..embellishments that truly compliment this amazing mix, yet challenge you at the same time. Have fun mixing the vintage with the new and soar to new levels of creativity. Unleash your inner artist and show us just how bad you can be..
Along with the main kit we have some really exciting add ons this month to indulge your senses. Revel in all of these and let your mind tiptoe through the possibilities.
For your creating pleasure, The Project Kit for this month is "Cherished Memories". There are only a few left, so make sure you order yours today. Please look here for more information.
And please be on the lookout for us on ScrapScene as we will be giving away a free kit to one lucky gal this month!!!! Also please stay tuned to the site as we will be playing POP QUIZ any day now and I have a big package of all new CHA goodies for the prize!!! Newsletter Article: Recycling
By Allison Schubert

In this day we hear so much about recycling our papers, glass, and plastics to help save our environment. We as scrap bookers should not be exempt from this encouragement of recycling; especially since we have helped turn the scrapbooking business into a multimillion dollar indusry that is based on chopping down trees to produce our paper goods.
Not only is recycling good for our environment but it also makes for an exciting and unique layout. Just like our creativity, recycling can be limitless. There are so many things that can be incorporated into our works of art if we just think a little outside the box, things you may not have necessarily thought about. Of course, we know we can use the packaging from our embellishments but, what about those pretty little birthday cards? I know a lot of people have tendency to throw those away. Cut out the flowers or balloons and you have a sweet little embellishment. Another excellent choice would be those dated magazines we have piled up, which are great to cut out letters. Or, the ribbon that was tied on that Christmas package you received. My favorite thing to recycle is books; I love to use old book paper on my layouts, it gives it a vintage feel I think. Now that you know some of the products that can be used in our art I know the next question: Is it acid-free? More than likely not but it can always be sprayed with an archival mist and if not, I'm sure whatever recycled product you use will last a long time. So, don't be intimidated by reusing certain goods because our environment could just depend on it.

Bad Girl of the month: Miz Elizabeth Reuter!
Everybody knows Elizabeth Reuter, known on the forums as Elizabeth R. - duh :) We won't ask a lady for her age, but she reveals that sure, there's a hint on the layout above. She is a SAHM to two children aged 6 and 4 years, lives in Saratoga Springs, NY, loves good food and claims she's a "former Bad Girl, mother to a future Bad Girl".So Elizabeth, "former Bad Girl, mother to a future Bad Girl"? Fess up! Any truth to that quote you love to sport on the forums?Hmmm, not sure if I can share these stories here! I was actually a very nice girl in high school, but fun and social. Then I hit my 20's.
As for my future Bad Girl, well she's just been evil since she was born. By the age of three it was the family consensus that when she grows up she will be an assassin. If you have ever seen the series La Femme Nikita, that will be her when she grows up. She is smart and beautiful, but don't mess with her! Actually she's starting to turn into more of a princess which is a bit of a relief! Teehee :) She tells us she knew Bad Girls was the perfect match for her, having learned about its debut at Willow Traders:I just knew I wanted in. I think the site debuted at midnight Pacific and no joke I got up at 3 or 4am to buy the July kit! I was terribly afraid it would sell out in a matter of hours. She continues to gush about the Bad Girls:Wendy already knows this is my favorite place to be!
I can't get over the kits every month. I love Wendy's imagination, because even though I think I'm creative she puts together stuff I would never dream of! Then I see the creations that the DT and the other members make and I'm consistently blown away! As for the message board, everyone is truly welcoming. I like that the members are pretty diverse and the board is always active.Aw that's so sweet Elizabeth!! But - hold on a little bit! How did you find this hobby in the first place??I've always known about it. In a way I was a scrapbooker as a kid. I kept photo albums and wrote little sayings by the pictures. But
once my daughter was born I knew I would want her to have these so I
dove in once I recovered from the sleep deprived baby years. That's very nice Elizabeth :) And how does your ideal day of scrapping look like?I would have the house all to myself, with a completely clean and organized scraproom. A bright sunny day, with the windows open, a fresh pot of coffee and a brand new kit ready to dive into. Plus a newly delivered box from snapfish. New pictures always
inspire me!Oh yeah! I think we can agree! :)Any favetechnique or anything similar you're able to share with us?I do not. Not that I don't want to share, I just don't have a go to technique. My favorite products are mixing patterned papers, and I probably use my cat's eyes inks on almost every layout. Now that they make the queue stacks I have 4 of them on my table and I'm set for ink colors. So Elizabeth - tell us about your other passion? I'm a foodie. I love great wines ( I collect wine) and great
food. An indulgent night out would be a four course tasting menu at
our favorite restaurant in Milwaukee with a champagne cocktail, a
fabulous bottle of wine and dessert. Then I would go into a food coma
on the drive home.Yum! We'd also like to share that Elizabeth is the driving force behind the incredible popular and amazing junique-swaps on the forums, where people swap unique vintage items and trinkets - tell us a little more about that!Confession time - the original idea was not mine. I participated in one last fall. I had so much fun collecting items for it that I wanted to share some more. But I wanted to share with people I actually knew. Since Wendy's kits are a bit more special, I thought that the members here would appreciate all the cool stuff I had. And the gals in the first one contributed some
amazing stuff, I can't wait to see what the next group comes up with.
Anything else you'd like to tell people before we end this interview? If you are thinking of trying the kits, try a 3 moth sub. The kits are always prettier in person and they will help you think outside the box. This is one site where I highly recommend using the gallery! OK this is the only
site where I actually visit the gallery on a regular basis. But that is because I swear the gals here will show me ways of using the kits I truly would not have thought of on my own. I wish I had the time to scraplift all my favorite pages here. Thank you so much for your time Elizabeth!!And for those who's wondering - the above layout is made with the October kit and the bottom one is made with the November kit. Her gallery can be seen here.
