yak
Get a taste of this at our first ever Yarn Tasting!
Fierce, shaggy and scarce, yaks don't exactly look like the kind of animal you'd want to clothe yourself in. But looks are deceiving...under that rough exterior lies some of the softest down ever. At Bijou Basin Yarns, they harvest the down, blend it, and spin it into heaven. This yarn is so soft and wonderful, you have to handle it to believe it. And now you can. On Sunday May 16 from 11-5, you'll be able to come and spend 90 minutes touching, feeling and knitting with this luscious yarn. Then, if you fall in love with it, we can order you what you'd like. You'll be able to play with a yak down and Cormo wool blend, as well as a yak and bamboo blend. This event is free but you must call or email us ahead of time to make a reservation to meet with Suzanne Ress of Bijou Basin. One feel of this yarn and you'll be hooked. We are!

citron
Another fab free pattern: Citron from Knitty.com
Some of us are in a "must knit small shawlettes" phase, and as such, we have succumbed to Citron, above, found here on Knitty.com. This is lovely done in Ella Rae Merino Lace, but can be don in any weight of yarn as long as you adjust your needle size. Pattern is very straightforward, the results are fabulous. Download the pattern and come find some yarn!

lettuce leaf
Pictures don't do it justice -- this month's staff pick
This is the Lettuce Leaf Shrug from Inspired to Knit by Michele Rose Orne. This beautiful shrug, knit by Cheryl, is simply stunning. The shrug body is done in Malabrigo while the ruffle is knit in Rialto DK from Debbie Bliss. We can't imagine an outfit this wouldn't improve.
