You asked for it...needle felting classes & more!
Really, what is not to like about needle felting? A bit of colorful roving, a sharp needle and a whole lot of stabbing and poking and then suddenly, you've made something. It's quick, it's easy and all that stabbing is oh-so-satisfying at the end of a long frustrating day!

We're now carrying felting needles, a large and multi-colored supply of roving, and needle felting kits that can help you make some flat, frame-able pictures, like the chickadee, above. But there's more...on March 4 and then again on March 11, we'll be offering needle felting classes. On March 4 instructor Lisa Colom will walk you through everything you need to make the chickadee. Then a week later, she'll teach you how to make the 3 dimensional, needle felted Easter egg, below, or a lamb (awwwww). Don't wait to sign up...this easy technique is addicting and can be used to embellish just about anything.

yarn crawl logo

Now this sounds like fun!
Just in time to save us all from going stir crazy, the folks at Seed Stitch Fine Yarn in Salem have organized a North of Boston yarn store "crawl." A crawl is the perfect excuse to get out of the house and visit some yarn stores...and there are loads of freebies, demos, prizes, specials and giveaways at each store. Plus each participating store will have a raffle basket and the more stores you visit, the better your chances of winning. Of course we'll be participating, and we're planning some special fun for the weekend, but think of this as a chance to get out and see some new stores too. For more information visit the web site and make sure to sign up for the emails to keep you updated (each page of the site has an email sign up box). The site also has a downloadable map and information, hours, etc., about each participating store. Don't miss this one, and make sure to tell your fiber loving friends about this -- use the "forward to a friend" button at the bottom of this email.

New sock yarns, new books & a bit of Ravelry
Right about now, something new sounds like a good idea. There's nothing like mid-February to make you think winter will never ever leave. We're cheering ourselves up by looking at some lovely new sock yarn -- Gems Sock from Louet, above -- which not only feels great but arrived with 3 fun new sock patterns designed to show it off: chevron lace, embossed chevron rib and textured 3 in 1 rib socks. On size 2 or 3 needles, your feet will be stylish pretty quickly and you'll be that much closer to spring, right? And if that's not enough, we've gotten a great collection of new books. Fairy Tale Knits is a collection of whimsical patterns for young children, so fun that if you don't have young children you'll be borrowing them! Another one we like is Socks -- East Meets West, some absolutely amazing sock patterns, all very inspiring. Dress Your Dog: Nifty Knits for Classic Canines offers a lot more than typical dog sweaters. And the Ashford Book of Weaving for Knitters is a must-have resource that bridges the gap between the two crafts. And finally, something that smells great is cheering too...Soak has arrived, the perfect wash for all your hand knits and other delicate items. And we have it in the Ravelry scent, "Unleash." Ah, gentle cleaning and aromatherapy in a bottle, what could be better?
