¿DO I HAVE TO EMPTY MY POOL TO PREVENT
MOSQUITOS?
NO. The mosquitoes favorite hangouts are still waters. Usually mosquitoes fly over pools not because of the water inside but because of the little pools of water that form on the deck and landscaping around the pool.
The greatest presence of mosquitoes in a pool is during night hours because they are attracted by the submersible pool lights and deck lights. Many other insects are also drawn to these lights at night.
Usually if you live close to creeks, dams, ponds, or any other site that can accumulate ponds of still water mosquitoes can be a problem. Also avoid empty tires, cans, bottles where water can accumulate. Also during this crisis try to clean your bird feeders and waterers daily.
Your pool has a pumping system that circulates water daily through a filter so it is NOT still water. This process cleans your water and helps keep it a safe environment.
¿WHAT CAN I DO TO REPEL OR ELIMINATE MOSQUITOES?
Have a clean area around your pool or spa. Mop the deck to prevent little pools of still water. Level the landscape around the pool for the same effect.
The most important thing in your pool or spa is to keep your filter in proper working condition and use the appropriate daily filter cycles for your volume of water. It is very important to always run your system enough hours even during the dry season; remember we must prevent your pool from become still for too long. It is also very important to keep the adequate disinfectant level in you water. Chlorine is the most effective to destroy mosquito larva since it is a very good oxidant.
¿HOW MANY HOURS A DAY SHOULD I RUN MY PUMP?
To calculate this we need to knowr: STEP 1: WATER VOLUME CALCULATION
FORMULA:
Length x width X average depth. The result of this formula is multiplied by 264 and this is your pool or spa´s water volume in gallons.
For example:
Your pool measures 8 Mts long X 4 mts wide X 1.20 Mts deep in the shallow end and 1.70 mts deep in the deep end for an average of 1.45 mts deep.
(Average depth= 1.20 + 1.70 = 2.90 ÷ 2 = 1.45 Mts)
Calculation: 8.0 Mts X
4.0 Mts X 1.45 Mts = 46.40
46.40 X 264 = 12,250 gallons of water
STEP 2: FILTRATION SYSTEM´S CAPACITY
Read your pump´s hp rating off the specifications plaque. You will find numbers like ¾ (0.75), 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2 ½ (2.5) and 3.0 HP If you have doubts about this rating give us a call since pump specs vary between manufactures, years of use, quality, etc. Here is a general guideline on pump output for different HP ratings.

To calculate hours of operation we divide our calculated volume of water by the output for our pump´s Hp rating.
Following our example of a 12,250 gallon pool lets assume our pump is a 1hp which gives us an output of 3000 gallons per hour:
12,250 gal
÷ 3,000 gal (for a 1hp pump)
= 4.0 Hours to circulate this volume of water through the filter
This is the minimum running time required for our system. WE recommend at least 1.5 turnovers per day which would mean for this pool 4 hrs x 1.5 = 6 hours. For commercial pools we recommend 2 complete turnovers per day.
¿WHAT IS THE REQUIRED DOSE OF DESINFECTANT? Ideally you should keep 2 to 3 ppm (parts per million) concentration of chlorine in your pool. This will help kill mosquitoes´s larvae. Always sample your water daily to check on chlorine levels. Daily dosage to increase chlorine by 2 ppm per 10,000 gallons of water using our products is: HYCLORITE®: 4 ounces daily

Answer: 3.7 ounces calculated like this

÷ 10,000 gal = 1.23 doses 1.23 doses
