St. John Ambulance Ontario Council celebrates 125th Anniversary
St. John Ambulance has been providing life saving knowledge, skills and service within Ontario for 125 years. The organization began offering first aid training courses in the fall of 1883 to the cadets of the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. The examinations and awarding of certificates to the cadets occurred the following spring, thus making 1884 as the founding year for St. John in Ontario. Read More»

First Aid on the Farm
It can be lonely out on the land. As family farms merge into larger units, leaving vast areas unpopulated, the person on the tractor becomes isolated from neighbours and friends. Picture a tractor moving up a rise in an open field. A passing hawk breaks the monotony distracting the driver from the large stone, until too late. The tractor begins to tip then roll as the combination of slope, gravity and impact take effect. The helper providing assistance in the other tractor becomes the only person within an hour or two who can provide first aid. Read More» |
Engaging SJA Youth Abroad As part of the St. John Ambulance Canada's partnership with the Caribbean (under the Short Term Assistance Plus Local Effort program - STAPLE) a request for assistance was circulated in January 2009 for an international volunteer opportunity in Antigua. The assignment would be for assistance in running the St. John Ambulance Youth Program, with the Canadian volunteer residing in Antigua for six months. Read More» |

I first joined the St. Marys Cadet Division of St. John Ambulance in 2004. Coming from a single parent home, St. John Ambulance has provided me with a sense of worth and civic responsibility.
