The Secret to winning Gold and the Tour de France...

NEW - Winter cycle escape to the Canaries
We'd like to add our warmest congratulations to Bradley Wiggins on his brilliant achievement, becoming the first Brit to win the Tour de France and Gold in the Olympics! Did you know he trained in the Canary Islands for much of the winter months? To celebrate Wiggo's win, we are launching a brand new road cycling holiday in the Canaries. Our Tour de Gran Canaria will take you to this much-prized 'location of choice' for many a pro-cycling team during the winter, due to its exceptional climate and excellent infrastructure. With our first departure on the 1 Nov 2012, our Gran Canaria holiday takes you on a spectacular road cycling circuit of this mountainous island. Bagging the highest point (1951m) on Picos de las Nieves and climbing 'Serenity', a super-smooth 9 km sequence of hairpins, are just two of the highlights. With a KE rating of intermediate and covering 354 km in 6 days, this 100% road-based and fully vehicle-supported holiday is the ideal way to 'get that winning feeling'. You can even wear yellow kit if you like! >> View Tour de Gran Canaria >> View all Road Cycling holidays

Stay fit and have fun in the Snow
Fed up with downhill skiing, long lift queues and ridiculous prices? Get back in touch with the fun you had when you first learnt to ski and take up cross-country skiing. From January 2013, we are running a brand new 5-day introduction holiday based near Courmayeur in Italy. You will learn the techniques of 'the classic style' on prepared piste, skiing within a set of tramlines. The only thing to worry about is - it's very addictive and you may never go back to downhill! Already hooked and experienced? Our new classic Grand Traverse of the Jura, is a superb 175km journey through a quiet corner of the French Alps, where it's not unusual to ski all day without seeing anyone. Covering @ 30km each day, carrying only daypacks, our luggage is transported to our hotels. >> View all X-Country Ski Holidays >> View all Winter Holidays

What's NEW for next year?
For 28 years KE have been travelling to the far corners of the Earth to find new and exciting ways to enjoy our amazing Planet. This year has been no exception and we've found some beauties for you. There will be lots of exciting new holidays in our forthcoming brochures but here is a sneak peak of what's to come in 2013. Looking for wilderness? Over in Turkey you can walk the St Paul Trail, a rough country path following in the footsteps of the first missionary journey to Asia Minor. For a little bit more luxury, try Slovenia and our new, hotel-based 1-week walking holiday in the Julian Alps. Interested in new climbs and treks in the Himalaya? Look no further than our Chulu and Tilicho Pass expedition in Nepal or our Hidden Himalaya of Burma trek. Stay updated by checking out 'What's new' on the web. >> View What's New in 2012/13

Solo Trekking in Nepal to be banned

New Nepalese Government Policy
Our sources in Nepal report that the days of trekking on your own and without a guide will soon be over! From this autumn all trekkers planning to undertake a route within the Nepal Himalaya will need to be accompanied by at least one porter or guide. Safety has been cited by the Nepalese Government as the main reason for introducing this new policy, as there have been isolated cases of trekkers disappearing within the last few years. Under the terms of the new policy 'Free Individual Trekkers' will also have to pay an additional fee of US $10 per day. Whilst this is a nominal amount to contribute towards your safety and the local economy, it is sadly another rule that will affect our right to roam freely in the mountains. Of course, it won't affect KE holidays, as our groups naturally employ a full complement of Sherpas, cooks, porters and other helpers. Autumn is prime trekking season in Nepal and over the next few months we have a huge choice of holidays, with more than 100 departures guaranteed. >> View all Nepal Holidays

Prices on the up
The jungle drums from Kilimanjaro have been rumbling lately. At first we were told porters fees were going to increase dramatically. This has now died down but National Park fees do look like they will increase by up to $10 per day next year. As always we will keep you informed, but if you were thinking of going late this year, you could be onto a winner.

Cotswold Outdoor help JT

Total now tops £25,000
A big thank you to Cotswold Outdoor from the Juniper Trust who recently donated nearly £6000 which brings their total amount of donations over the last few years to over £25,000! KE clients are entitled to a 15% discount at Cotswold who in turn donate a further percentage of each spend to our favorite charity. The lucky projects that benefited from this amount were the ABVK School for handicapped children 12 miles east of Kathmandu in Nepal, the hugely successful Peru Solar Light venture run by Val Pitkethly and the building of the Asumbar Village School in the Northern Pakistan looked after by Ayub Khan. All these projects are regularly checked by KE leaders leading groups in these countries. >> Read more about the Juniper Trust >> View Cotswold Outdoor online
